It’s all twisted, he thinks, as he limps away from Lip and on towards Mickey.
He doesn’t need to figure it out. Not like that.
It’s not that Ian doesn’t want to marry Mickey. Who wouldn’t want him?
It’s just - after everything -
Mickey deserves solid footing more than anyone Ian knows. He deserves safety, stability. Security.
He deserves more than the gamble of Ian’s mind and the risky hands it deals.
Ian fiddles with the ring at his neck. It’s solid beneath his fingers. Like he so desperately wants to be.
He hopes the promise to try will be enough.
