I don’t know how to explain to people who aren’t queer Christians (I especially don’t know how to explain it to ex-Christian queers) that my queerness and my catholic-ness are inherently linked. Like, when I feel far from the one, I’m far from the other. When I find joy in one, I find joy in the other. When I feel welcome in one, I feel welcome in the other. When I hate being one, I hate being the other.
This is further complicated by my being a sex/romance-adverse aroace, and me having to explain that my being single and celibate isn’t inline with Church teaching, it’s in defiance of it because not all queer folks are traumatized/hurt by the Church in the same way.
Maybe it just hurts after a while, knowing that neither community that claims to be loving, caring, and accepting is actually all that loving, caring, and accepting.
