How to know if you can call yourself ace!

You identify with the label. That's it. You are not too young to be asexual. You are not too old to be asexual. Your gender identity does not play a role in the validity of your sexual orientation. It does not matter if you're a virgin, or if you have had sex a million times. It does not matter if the idea of having sex makes you gag, or if you enjoy it. If you feel like the label fits you, you can use it.

Hey for my asexual fam out there, you’re still asexual if being drunk makes it so that sex isn’t as uncomfortable for you. Your drunk self isn’t your “most honest self” or your “true self” and if the only way you’re comfortable having sex is if you’re inebriated (in which case you shouldn’t be having sex because drunk people can’t consent but it does happen, and it’s not always malicious) it doesn’t invalidate the fact that you are uncomfortable when you’re sober. Don’t let people hold sexual things you said or did when you were drunk over your head.

Also don’t let people make you feel guilty if you don’t want sex in a relationship. Don’t feel like sexual incompatibility can’t be a reason to end a relationship because it can. You don’t need to try to “make it work” all time if it’s making you miserable. You can get love and affection from someone who is willing to compromise, in whatever way that is, to make you comfortable in the relationship. Being asexual isn’t a sentence to loneliness. We can have fulfilling romantic relationships with or without sex. We can have fulfilling platonic relationships. Your comfort with sex should be important to your partner and if they’re insecure because you’re not physically attracted to them, that’s their problem, not yours, you should never let a partner make it feel like your asexuality or sex repulsion is a phase.

The only thing that makes you asexual is if you do not experience sexual attraction. That’s it. You can be ace and have sex. You can be ace and not have sex. You can be asexual and have any range of sex drive. Being asexual doesn’t mean you have to be alone.

When I was 16 and still figuring out about my asexuality, I found out some asexuals like to masturbate, I got worried, because I don't, so I went to a doctor because I was legitly worried something was wrong with me. I asked her if that was normal, and the DOCTOR told me I was just "too childish" to that kind of stuff basically, and that I would get into it when I got older.

I asked "but... What if I never want to?", she said "oh, you will, don't worry". I asked "....but what if I NEVER want to?", she replied "well... Then, I'll refer you to a psychologist."

I got out of there thinking "oh. So there is REALLY something wrong with me at the end..."
