freaky question…
you up?
maybe.... :)
I thought the LGBT+ community was for anyone that wasn't Heterosexual or CIS?
I’m learning about Asexuality on what I thought was the “hub of tolerance” Tumblr and I’ve become very disappointed with the LGBT+ community.
Apparently Asexuals are not welcome in the LGBT+ community. Are they not gay enough? Do they not face prejudice enough?
Acephobia is very real. Prejudice against Asexuals is very real. "Sex is so normal, it’s “natural” - humans are supposed to have sex. Okay, maybe men can have sex with men, maybe women can have sex with women, we’ll try and wrap our heads around that, fine."
"But NOW you young people want to have sex with NO ONE? That doesn’t make sense. You’re broken. You’re wrong. You’ve not met the right man. Oh, you’re a lesbian? I thought you weren’t anything?" And so on and so forth.
Asexuality is hard to understand if you are one, it’s even harder to explain to someone who doesn’t get it... And the one place you would hope would help you find out who you are, rejects you on the spot.
It isn’t right. It’s very disappointing. It’s easy to invalidate yourself when the one place you’d think wouldn’t invalidates you so severely.
