Panel One: PetalClan

Two cats are lying down. The cat on the left is Flintpelt, she/her, 69 moons old. She is a gray bengal cat with brown-black flecks and green eyes. The cat on the right is Yarrowmoon, he/him, 58 moons old. He is a yellow cat with orange tabby markings, white crescent moon "earrings," and scars on his chest and nose. His eyes are closed.

Flintpelt asks Yarrowmoon, "Shouldn't we be gathering herbs?" Yarrowmoon responds, "Nah, we don't have anywhere to put them. Besides, I'm still tired from traveling." He thinks to himself, "And you're still recovering from having our kits..."

Panel Two: CloudClan

A kitten yells at an adult cat. The kitten is Snakekit, he/him, 4 moons old. He is a gray speckled tabby with one white ear and indigo eyes. The cat he's yelling at his father, Cement Mixer, he/him, 49 moons old. He is a pink masked tabby with white eyebrows and indigo eyes.

Snakekit yells, "I hate that we were kittypets!! And I hate that you kept that dumb kittypet name!! It's like you don't even want to be a CloudClan cat!!" Cement Mixer looks hurt.

Panels Three and Four: ShellClan

Kestrelpaw, a small gray cat with blue mackerel tabby markings and green-yellow eyes, touches noses with another cat, Ashtrot, a blue-ish gray bengal tabby with a yellow-ish underside, orange eyes, and a scar on her nose. Kestrelpaw uses she/her pronouns and is 6 moons old. Ashtrot uses she/her pronouns and is 80 moons old.

In the third panel, text reads, "Kestrelpaw is now a mediator apprentice!! Her mentor is Ashtrot. Her traits are now playful, quick to help." Kestrelpaw looks thrilled. Ashtrot's expression is distant, almost bored.

In the fourth panel, Ashtrot looks the same, but Kestrelpaw looks devastated, hurt, and confused.

🏠 what's their relationship with their family like??

shortly after the traveling survivors left their old territory, ashtrot had a fling with a kittypet/loner/whatever, it doesn't really matter, and happened to end up getting pregnant.

ashtrot... never really liked kits.

she wasn't exactly thrilled to have some of her own.

ashtrot gave birth to a single kit, kestrelkit. she tried to spend as little time with her kit as possible, but when she did spend time with kestrelkit, ashtrot did her best to pretend to like her kit. ... or, at least, that's what she told herself.

since there were a lot of cats who were happy to spend time with kestrelkit, she didn't realize how little time she actually spent with her mother (she knew it wasn't a ton, but she didn't realize how little it actually was).

kestrelkit adores her mother, and wants to be a mediator, just like her!! she begged shellclan's head cats to let her be ashtrot's apprentice!! since puddlesun was shellclan's only other mediator, and he didn't think he could handle being both a head cat and a mentor — honestly, he's not sure he can handle being either, but he doesn't really have a choice about that — the head cats agreed.

kestrelpaw doesn't understand why ashtrot isn't happy to be her mentor.

kestrelpaw isn't sure how to feel about starclan. at first, all she knew about them was that they sent the traveling survivors on a journey before she was even born.

after fallingfox died — turtlespeckle (turtlestar)'s mate and the father of honeykit and acornkit — kestrelkit was confused. cats said fallingfox was "with starclan now." but she thought starclan was with them?? or was their journey supposed to bring them to starclan?? no one could give her a satisfying answer.

then, sunnyheart and dewpaw died. (sunnyheart was rain (rainsun)'s mate and the reason he joined the group of traveling survivors. dewpaw was orchidbloom (orchidstar)'s kit and berrypaw (berrytail)'s sister and kestrelkit's friend.) kestrelkit went from confused, to confused and angry. why would starclan take away fallingfox and sunnyheart?? why would they take away dewpaw??

but then, dewpaw led berrypaw to the gathering- and moonplaces, and nine of their companions gained special markings gifted to them by starclan, and...

kestrelpaw isn't sure what to think of starclan right now. but she thinks that maybe, they're just cats, like her, but maybe with a few special powers.
