It's funny, I have a post on here somewhere where Ashe does "scary Ashe" and I find both versions equally hilarious xD
Okay please imagine with me Ashe's reaction when Dedue shows up alive. Based on what Ashe says to you it's clear he's pretty torn up over Dedue's supposed death. And after losing his parents, his big brother, and then a parent again, he's probably touchy over the issue of death. So here he is grieving, thinking of his friend whenever he goes into the greenhouse. And then Dedue shows up, a little worse for wear, but very much alive. Ashe would be hysterical and I cannot be convinced otherwise.
Oh he's so happy, like you wouldn't believe! All decorum goes out the window, he full on tackles Dedue and even manages to move him back like two inches
Dedue just let's him and the others give him some space cuz Ashe has lost a lot of people in his life and he deserves this
Dimtri's truck is so old and barely held together that only Dimitri and Ashe are allowed to touch it. Sylvain tried to drive it once and it broke down. He didn't even do anything wrong it's just that junky, only Dimitri knows how to finesse it the right way to keep it from falling into scrap metal. And Ashe fixes it up because he's the only one willing to. They asked Leonie to look under the hood once when Ashe was away and she told Dimitri that shit was haunted she can't help.
Leonie: uh-uh no way, I'm not touching that. This shit is held together with duct tape and hubris, how is Dimitri even alive anymore?
Ashe, over the phone: I haven't told him the chances so he doesn't know he should be dead by now
Leonie: that is terrifying in several ways and yet I am intrigued
Dimitri: “I wanna put a trailer hitch on the truck.” Ashe: “Your fender fell off last week and the license plate is duct-taped to the board you replaced it with. I can do it but you owe me $200 and a falcon.” Dimitri: “Done.”

ashe has oldest sibling promoted to parent reflexes and jeeps doing shit like telling byleth to eat more vegetables while scraping what's left of his plate onto hers

Everytime I think of Lonato's unique dialogue with Ashe I get mad and we know nothing about Christophe's relationship with Ashe other than it was apparently positive. I like to think that Christophe was a very protective and loving brother, like Raphael is to Maya, and to imagine that father and son reunite in whatever the afterlife is in Fodlan. They have a tearful and loving chitchat and then they get to the topic of Ashe and Christophe is all "You said WHAT to my baby brother"
Ashe does call Christophe "nii-san" in Japanese while he speaks to Lonato very formally so I'd say they were close, yeah. And Christophe is gonna be pissed when Lonato comes to the after life and kick his ass straight to hell himself *nods* yes
Lonato snd Ashe have some of the most painful unique dialogue in the game. The fact that Lonato will willingly attack Ashe at all is so sad, he's lost one son and it's blinded him to the other who is still there and who still needs his father. Gilbert says it best in his B-support with Ashe. He says that Lonato lost sight of what should be protected and when Ashe asks him what he means he says "You, Ashe. Because you are also his son." Which beautifully surmises my feelings and I'm just so sad.
All of this but you know what always gets me about this whole mission? That it's also a good moment of foreshadowing because who else loses sight of what's important for his revenge?
The guy who is almost as distraught at what just happened as Ashe was: Dimitri
I really lovet that Cyril and Ashe's ending is so pure in describing their relationship. A lot of the pairings are romantic (or ambiguously so) but there are some that are platonic and focus what they did together than their friendship. But then there's Ashe and Cyril where the friendship part was so important it specified. The endings are written like they're part of history books, so these two's friendship was so important to their lives it had to be written into history. I love them.
