Drove out to Chinchilla QLD 🇦🇺yesterday on my way through to Miles for the first time in a longgggggg time. Below is a picture of my very first dojo (if you don’t count the family backyard). I remember this building being a lot bigger and grander in my 5 year old eyes. Looking at this building I instantly thought of my dad and I, the 60km trip to get here, our awesome chats, plus the promised packet of chips I always got on the way home. This building represents such a huge chunk of my childhood. It’s really important to look back sometimes to see your roots, where you come from, so as to appreciate where you are in your journey now. When I was a kid I didn’t know or understand many of the concepts in Karate and martial arts (I mean how could I having started at 5?!) it is only now - some 26 years later - that I can recognize the grounding in physical/mental training. I’m so grateful to my parents for pushing me along, supporting me because without Karate I would not have achieved as much as I have today.
