“Are you sure I look alright?” It’s not the first, or even the second, time she’s asked him, tugging self consciously on the hem of her dress before she blows out an exasperated breath, berating herself for letting her anxiety get the best of her. What did it matter if she ran into...whoever at the dinner? She was arriving with Ash and she would leave with him, too. Whatever happened in between was just gravy. He was doing her favor by being her buffer and she was sure that he was regretting it by now with how she was stressing out. Taking his arm so she wouldn’t trip on the path in her heels, she bumps her forehead into his shoulder affectionately before smiling up at him. “I’m sorry. Don’t answer that. It’s fine.” And it really was. She wasn’t trying to impress anyone, she was just here to have fun with her friends. “I really appreciate you coming with me, you know? I owe you one. I know you probably had ladies lining up to be on your arm,” she teases. “I feel so special.”
