Milestone Performance for Qatar
Prior to the start of the 2019 Asian Cup, Spanish footballer Xavi predicted that Qatar would defeat Japan in the final match.
I remember laughing about Xavi’s prediction. But obviously I wasn’t the only person to laugh at Xavi.
As it turned out, it wasn’t one of the big five nations of Asia that won the Asian Cup.
Qatar took everyone by surprise and dominated winning all seven matches and only conceding one goal by defeating Japan 3-1 in the final.
Did Xavi know something that the rest of us did not? I really don’t know what to say and as a diehard fan of the Iranian national team, I am disappointed.
Anyway, its not my place to complain.
But nobody expected Qatar to win its first ever Asian Cup and now I can only wonder what everyone will be expecting from Qatar when it hosts the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Online bookmaker 10Bet has the latest outright odds for the 2022 World Cup and currently Qatar has 250/1 odds to win the tournament.

Okay, I know what you all are thinking, and I am not getting carried away.
Just because Qatar won the Asian Cup, it doesn’t mean the tiny gulf nation will do the impossible by winning the World Cup.
I will point out one thing and I think it is safe to say that Qatar has earned respect by winning the tournament and may finally be considered as one of the best national teams in Asia.
But what about the skeptic football fans? They are probably thinking that Qatar got hot and rode the momentum all the way to the final.
It is easy to come up with a lot of scenarios but since Qatar will be hosting the World Cup, we won’t be able to see how it will do in the final round of World Cup qualification.
Back in 2007, Iraq won the Asian Cup but failed to even qualify to the final round of World Cup qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
Well, regardless of what happens, there will be some added pressure on the Qataris to have a respectable performance in 2022.
