So, you’ve been fighting against stereotypes all your life, but what do you do when your personal experience actually confirms it? Sometimes I want to break stereotypes so bad that I hope that I can just say "I’m not like that" to confront every single exiting stereotype and prove it “wrong”, but stereotypes may be accurate in certain contexts. I am hardworking and I’m good at math. One cannot represent all the varieties that exist in the world, and you don’t have to deny who you are in order to fight against stereotypes. Instead, you can learn about and share other people’s experiences. You can remind your interlocutor that what you are saying is only true to your personal experience and knowledge. If you are describing a custom or a tendency, make sure to introduce the context and illustrate the nuances. If a stereotype is a fixed, generalised and oversimplified image, then the best way to break it is to paint something contextual, specific and nuanced. #stereotypes #asianstereotypes #breakstereotypes #chinesestudents #culturalstereotypes #sliceoflife #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/CE6psmBiGWa/?igshid=1s8mk25xqse6j
