Never Be The Same - Dean's Story
Out of the many pictures that he and his husband had hanging or sitting upon tables or counters throughout their entire house (and not to mention the hidden cabin nestled deep in the woods), the picture of both of them walking down the aisle on their wedding day was the most treasured moment that he would forever cherish, the moment that he and Dean were seen wed in front of all their friends and family. It was such a happy day, one that he would look back at and tear up a bit just because of all the things that lead up being happily wed with Dean until the moment he died peacefully.
With Dean’s help and along with his brothers Sam and Adam, he was able to stop the Apocalypse but yet it came with a price. He wasn’t able to stop Michael and Lucifer from inhabiting Sam and Adam’s bodies; that was the day he saw his younger brothers fall into Hell and never come back. This too was also the day in which he saw Castiel once again and reinstated with full power; grateful for the angel being there, he was transported back to Dean’s arms and he cried on his husband’s shoulders until he couldn’t find the strength to cry. He then vowed to get his brothers back somehow without the use of a crossroads demon or anything of demonic origin.
He was lucky with having Castiel and his guardian angel searching down in Hell for his brothers and it took time to reconnect with his brothers the moment they resurfaced; he was forever grateful for the angels’ help. With time and regaining trust, he could easily say that things were basically perfect with how he had his family back along with his husband. Later that year, he and Dean renewed their vows in front of everyone that they knew, that day going down in the books as one they would never forget. The most memorable time during their wedding day was he and Dean dancing to “Never Be The Same”, one song that Dean introduced him to the very night he first said to Dean those three words that could make any cold heart warm; “I love you.” This very song came to be one in which he and Dean would sing and play next to the fireplace often with the accompaniment of one sassy kitten, Zeppelin.
With a cat and two killer whales along with his husband, he knew that they had a perfect family. But every now and again he would go into the room that Dean built that was supposed to fit one body that Dean immensely feared; a child. It was something in his life that he wished for, the husband, house and pets were checked off the perfect family list and a child was the last ingredient. This too, he knew, would take time and patience with his husband and he was always happy and in love with Dean. He knew that if there was never the opportunity to have a child with his husband, he would always remain happy that he got a slice of normal life with the fact of being married. But with years down the road, they were ever so fortunate; they had a son, a young boy that they rescued from a case that turned nasty – with the result of both parents dying at the hands of Lucifer rising again. This boy would grow up to be in the world of both hunting and being a car mechanic, something that he was ultimately proud of even though he and Dean never forced their son into the job of hunting.
Throughout the years of hunting, scrapes and bruises, family gatherings, watching their son grow up in age and schooling, their pets ageing but remaining spirited and playful… one thing entirely remained the same; he and Dean were very much in love and their love only grew with the marriage that they had together. Every now and again where they would be larger problems that occurred due to supernatural forces, he and Dean would remain strong to conquer over them along with all the allies that they made connections with along the way. Through many years, their house was their everything; their place of solace, their training grounds for hunting, the car shop, the family gatherings, a state of mind. But above all else, their house was a home and it welcomed everyone who was their friend or family with a gracious hospitality and additional memories.
With time, he was able to conquer his fear of mental darkness and death; the memories of abuse and torture from Hell that he had slowly faded with Dean and love. Dean, the love of his life, also dealt with the memories of Hell along with Purgatory; it was something that he graciously helped and talked to Dean about to get his husband strong to conquer the fears and turmoil. Love for them would conquer over everything with years of help and support. And that was something that they were grateful for was their love that they had for one another. Their years of married life were sometimes not perfect, with stress and misinterpretations but it would always have love… and really good sex every time whenever they had the chance. As the years went on and slowly coming to a close, he knew that it was amazing and a wonder that he lived a long and happy life – even with the occasional hunt, it was still memorable and just perfect with his family and husband. He couldn’t have asked for more.
The night that he died was a peaceful one; it was also the night in which his husband died along with him, knowing full well that Dean would not want to move on in life without his husband there with him. He knew that his time was up when he accomplished what he wanted to do in life – hunt, marry a wonderful person, have a child and a wonderful family, and help others in any way that he could. That night was where he heard a voice, an angel’s, speak in his head that “It was time.” He remembered smiling at Dean, placing his wrinkled hand upon his husband’s face and murmuring, “It’s my time.” They held each other’s hands once Dean knew what was going on, their rings worn and dulled with age. Placing a soft kiss against Dean’s mouth, he whispered, “I love you,” and Dean spoke back to Dean "I love you too Dean" soon they both fell into a relaxing sleep, one that he would never wake up again. The moment he woke up again, he was in Heaven and was greeted with Dean at his side – Dean then told how he requested to the angels that he too wanted to die peacefully, just to be with him. Crying with a smile, he hugged Dean for all he was worth and was elated with being young and happy and still married to this wonderful man.
They would forever be somewhere without pain, without darkness, without despair. No more memories of Hell, of Purgatory, of darkness, or regret. No more hunting, fear of dying, or thoughts of torture. It was now family and friends and happiness, peace and tranquility. They would wait for the day that their son would also be allowed through the gates, to be reunited as a family again. But for now… it was only them. And that was something he would never grow sick of, being with his Dean. His husband. His friend, his love, his everything. And that was perfect for him.
They never changed one thing about the life they had before they died, all the sex, and it felt as if it was just them moving on with life, and never ending, they would always be together, and that made the relationship they had was that much more amazing. "I love you Dean. Always and Forever." Dean smiled a little and spoke against his husbands lips as they were having sex, yet again. "I love you too. Always and forever."
