👀 + Baki, what do you love the most about your village? What do you despise the most about it?

“I love the spirit and the people of my village, they never give up, and thrive in the harshest conditions.

However, if we could redo our past, I believe that might help things.”

“You should probably sit down for this.”

"I will not." His voice was low and dangerous, at the foot of the large canyon that led into Suna. So the white Zetsu had come for this village? He looked over his shoulder, Kankurou and Temari already standing by in their respective locations, while Kazekage-sama waited with his arms crossed, expressionless and ready for the first move.

He'd be the first to say he was proud of those three, coming from the ashes of their ruined family and making something of themselves- leading the village into victory. But above all he was mostly proud of Gaara.

"We may have asked for Konoha's assistance, but I will not stand idly by while my village men fight."

He was far too harsh with the kids some times. The village now held them in such high regard, Baki found himself taking a step back sometimes just to confirm that yes, they are children and yes, even they needed a break sometimes. 

Gaara and Temari were both evenly mannered when he had mentioned lunch was on him, Kankurou was the only one who showed any excitement to the point he was grinning wide and nearly drooling at the food presented before him. 

And Baki? Well... he wasn’t hungry- besides, they needed it far more, their schedule seemed pretty booked with both missions and preparations for Gaara’s step as Kazekage. 

“you three don’t need to rush, take your time to enjoy the food, we will continue our training afterwards-” He felt his words fall on deaf ears, all three at the table watching as Kankurou nearly inhaled his lunch. 

Well... someone was hungry.

“Yes, Kazekage-sama sent me to observe Temari and Kankuro’s training. He couldn’t make it this month. The council is hounding him on the public works projects they’ve been lobbying for.” Yasha lifted up a little basket with a bright yellow cloth covering its contents. “And I brought snacks for everyone.”

Ah, of course. Baki nodded, turning behind him and clearing his throat. “Temari. Kankurou.” Both children instantly shuffled back inside, alightly dirty from having trained earlier. Kankurou, the wildest of the three, seemed delighted to see his uncle, while Temari- the calmest, just seemed a little more curious than usual. 

“Your Uncle will oversee your training in place of Kazekage-sama for today. Let’s get to it-” his eyes cast back to the basket of snacks “Afterwards, for your hard work you will be allowed to enjoy some treats he’s made for you.” Kankurou yippied and his sister outside, followed by their teacher. “Temari, you start first.”

“We should work on our forced grins.”

He knows that Yashamaru isn’t fond of him- as the future instructor for his niece and nephews, this man must put an awful lot of consideration for their future. Not only that, but Baki is aware he is an outsider looking in to one of the most important families in the entirety of the village. His own mother wouldn’t have let anyone near him unless she approved of it first hand.

Despite this, the young Jounin commander didn’t react to the other’s response to their meeting. He instead, focused on a curious little boy- a red head holding a small toy bear, and his shy nature showing obviously on his face. This was the youngest of the three- the “hope” for Suna and bearer of the one tailed demon Shukaku. 

He smiled a fraction, and then turned his attention back on Yashamaru. “Indeed we should. Did you need to talk to me Yashamaru-san?”

“I’ve never been certain about anything.”

“You’re biggest foe will be uncertainty. You can make all the right decisions and adapt perfectly and still lose. The important thing is to cast aside your doubt and adapt to the loss Temari. No matter what happens, you must never give up.” Baki sighs through his nose, hoping silently that his words got through to her. 

“Try again. I will stay here with you until you feel confident.”
