This book of their’s was awfully heavy. Thick and old, made out of aged leather and paper. The lettering on each page was made swirls, and the ink seemed to have gained a purple hue, aged well, just as the rest of the book. The only damage to it was the slight scorch marks on the bottom right hand corner, and slight water damage to the last few pages. Completely unnoticeable until the book was opened to the pages in question.
Frisk kept this in as nice of a condition as they could. It was always the first object in their inventory, and the thing they kept the neatest. Why? Well..Truth be told, it was their only source of education, magic wise. Their friends were nice to help, but they weren’t good at teaching them how to do it. They went to the book to learn the magic, and their friends to learn the techniques.
This ever so important book of theres was currently propped up on a large rock right now, allowing Frisk to lay on their stomach and read through the current page. It was all technical, with a few diagrams, but they understood it just fine. They had read this page multiple times, after all.
They blew into their hands, causing a bit of fire to spark up for a good moment or so. It was starting to get pretty chilly out, and they were standing here in jeans and a t-shirt. Their mom’s words echo’ed in their mind
“You’ll be needing a coat, child. It might get cold out as the day goes on.”
Frisk almost winced. She was right, of course. Mom was almost always right about it, and they weren’t entirely sure why they bothered fighting so much against her wishes. However, there was no way they were going home to get their jacket now. Not only would it be a major inconvenience, but they needed to prove their point! Proving points was a very good reason to not do something!
They turned back to the old book, staring down at the page in question. The diagrams on it were old and worn, however just to the point to where they could make them out. They reached over to grab the pen out of the bag they’d brought with them, and make an attempt to trace over the design in it. It was important to see what they needed to be practicing.
They traced over the lines carefully, and ever so gently. They didn’t want to mess up to horribly. It wasn’t like they could get a second book.
Just as they moved to start on the second diagram on the page, a noise pulled their attention away, causing them to shoot up like a light. People normally didn’t come this far into the forest. It was why they practiced here. If they “Fucked up”, it wouldn’t destroy anything.
It had probably just been a squirrel or rat but...They grabbed their stuff, already moving to investigate. You could never be to careful, and they didn’t want to accidentally hurt anyone. Double checking the area for people couldn’t hurt.
Right?

Their employer told them that this cave system was inhabited. It was everything else but that. Sure, there are signs of civilization — but not a single person to be found, and Quote couldn’t help but feel a sense of... foreboding as they traveled through. Something terrible has happened. There’s no other way of explaining it. Houses were unlocked, the contents were untouched and covered in a fine layer of dust — seems no-one has lived here for a while, but... why couldn’t they find a single body among the abandoned houses?
Another house, another street. Still no signs of life. That sense of foreboding is becoming stronger every minute. As they turned the next corner, something moved in the darkness — and they immediately spun towards the source, gun drawn and ready.
“ Who’s there. “
