Could you write a little fluff piece for Rooster x Female!Nurse Reader, where they’re dating and get into an argument because she’s worried about him flying, but then he makes it up to her?
“I’m Yours”
Rooster x nurse reader
Warnings: pure fluff. Small amount of angst.
...
Your office phone rang, and the caller ID said control center was on the other end. This can’t be good. As a navy nurse, you understood that this could only mean one thing.
“Hello, this is nurse y/n,” you answered.
“Y/n, we need you at the flight deck. Bring 2 suture kits and some splinting supplies just in case. An aviator was forced to eject at a low altitude and the landing was rough. The coast guard is about 5 minutes out.”
“Understood.” And the line on the other end went dead.
You rushed around your small office clinic, grabbing the supplies you needed and then some just in case. You wanted to be extra prepared.
“What if the aviator was Rooster?” you couldn’t help but think. Although you tried to shove the thought out of your head, it just kept coming back.
You sprinted toward the flight deck. As soon as you reached it, you saw the helicopter land. A gurney rolled out and you took a large breath trying to calm yourself before approaching.
You stopped mid stride when you realized it was Rooster laying on the gurney. You tensed up, feeling panic take a hold of you. What if it was a worse injury than control center had thought?
Fuck Rooster, he had promised you he wouldn’t do this to you again. You couldn’t handle it. The last time had been terrifying. He had gone into G-lock during his last practice run. Even though he had awakened before his plane crashed, the event had still traumatized you.
You had kept him overnight for observation.
That night you and Rooster had had one of the biggest fights in your relationship. (Well it was more of a one sided argument since Rooster would never raise his voice at you.) You knew it wasn’t his fault. This was part of his job. But you couldn’t help the outburst. You felt helpless. You screamed at him, letting him know how unfair it was to see someone you love almost die.
It was the first time you had said it, said that you loved him.
He let you scream all you wanted after that and when you were done, he held you while you cried into his chest. He whispered that he was still alive, and he loved you back. He repeated it like a mantra to you until you calmed down.
You had spent the entire night of “observation” cuddled to his side. He had promised he wouldn’t make you feel that way again.
When your feet finally started to respond, you rushed to the gurney.
Rooster’s side of his mouth quirked into a half smile at you when you approached, and you sighed. The smile meant he was ok. Although you wanted to hug the pilot, you understood you were not in the right setting for it. You were relieved to see the fighter pilot was, surprisingly, doing well although a bit pale.
The most obvious sign of injury was his leg which was actively oozing blood from a large cut running down the side of it.
You quickly assessed his vitals and made sure no other major trauma had occurred before focusing on his leg. He had lost quite a bit of blood visible in the soaked pant leg which explained the paleness. So you knew you had to work quick.
There was a collective sigh of relief on the landing deck after you deemed Rooster stable enough to roll to your (much more sterile) clinic.
Once in your office, you cut away the rest of his pants.
You blushed for half a second seeing Rooster in his briefs but quickly went back into professional mode. You rinsed his leg to get rid of any debris and then sterilized the wound as best you could. It was long gash. Thankfully, you didn’t see any fracture- like injury.
“This is going to burn like fire,” you glanced at Bradley and he nodded his understanding. You started to inject the numbing medicine and you felt Rooster stiffen slightly but the pilot handled it better than most.
You worked efficiently to sew the skin together. You could feel Rooster eyes on you as you worked. Although you remained professional, Rooster could see the worry etched in your frown.
“Y/n. . .” Rooster began but you shook your head. You didn’t want to do this now.
You didn’t see Rooster grimace. He ran a hand through his curly hair. He mentally searched for a way to try to erase the frown on your pretty face.
Once you finished suturing, you sterilized the wound again before applying gauze and then wrapping the injured limb.
“I’m going to get you a gown and some new sheets,” you stated robotically. Before you stepped away, you felt Rooster’s hand wrap around your wrist.
“Sweetheart…” he started again, but you cut him off.
“No Bradley. You promised.” You hadn’t realized how upset you were until that moment. “I can’t. . . I don’t know how to handle it, Bradley. It’s too much. I think we should just..” but before you finished your sentence, Rooster was already pulling you in.
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence y/n,” he wrapped his arms tightly around you. “You’re everything to me and I’m yours, all yours,” he whispered pulling you impossibly closer to his chest.
After a few minutes of Bradley rubbing your back soothingly, your tension faded away and you finally melted into his arms. A thousand thoughts were swirling in your head. It pained you seeing Bradley get hurt but the thought of breaking up hurt a thousand times more.
You knew you would always choose him.
After a few minutes, you whispered back “I’m yours too.”
