I don't think it's a coincidence that the Fang Gang and Gen Z vampires in the show are being portrayed as susceptible to propaganda and longing for the good old regressive puritanical ways of the Children of Darkness, now that irl fascism is on the rise esp among younger generations.

I usually don't like meta commentary on fandom, but I am enjoying it in this show. The writers know the fandom quite well.

This! I love that the show basically said that haircuts and pronouns are not a passport out of religious fundamentalism and some of the fandom didn't take the hint and took it as an offense

I'm so tired of "think of the optics...!" Let poc and trans character be complex, be evil, be weirdos, be unpleasant, etc, yet remain sympathetic and treated with care. Is the realm of depth only for cishet white folk? Jacob said it. Viola Davis said it. Actors from marginalized communties want to play these roles! Let them!

Like, free yourself from the panopticon for a second, at least when you are engaging with art!!

After seeing the reactions to that interview, I know this fandom is not ready for Assad's thoughts on Marius and Marimand.

I'm scared for Christopher, tbh.

I mean, it doesn't come as a surpirise. Assad has already quite literally spoken about his thoughts on Marimand and the fandom, DMers in particular, chooses to ignore or straight up dismiss it

I'm not worried in the slightest about Chris though. He's a seasoned actor and very well-versed in playing villains and giving nuanced and compassionate answers about them. Here there's an example

In this case Marius is not even a villain so... I think Marius is very safe in Chris's hands😊😊😊

The brainworms are real because the scream I scrumpt when I saw Chris. My brain just screamed PAPA!

Also, it's so weird how he looks more like Marius as himself. Like, the styling in the show failed him. Marius's spirit lives in Chris and AMC ain't letting him work.

I literally screamed when I saw the red scarf. He always looks handsome but last night he was radiant. Everyone is saying how sweet he was to everybody and how happy he was just to be there with the rest of the cast🥰

As a transmasc nb, I am exhausted by the Gabrielle discourse. Actual trans people being called transphobic over a fictional character ffs. Fandom once again treating fictional characters like real people and real people like fictional characters.

lbr, the Gabrielle that some people in this fandom love is an OC. If you call her Gabriel and use he/him pronouns for her, have her shave her head, etc, that's literally an OC. That did not happen in the books.

The same Anne Rice who wrote "you can be female, you can be male, you can be neither" in Blood&Gold would've written trans Gabrielle if she wanted to. She had Gabrielle reject human labels and join a women-only coven. Really makes you think.

Exactly! Reading a female character that wears masculine clothes as unequivocally transmasc is frankly such a regressive set of mind. I think the show is doing a marvellous job at depicting and elevating Gabriella and Lestat as gnc characters just as Anne Rice wrote them.
