10. Fears/phobias

Oh god. Poor Penn. I think we all know what his BIGGEST fear is…. Somehow ending back up in Claire’s clutches. That’s like nightmare scenario. In fact, on bad nights I’m sure he has dreams about it. Really I think he’s very afraid of losing the family he’s created. He finally has people he loves who love him back. He has a support system. And to lose that would be crushing for him.

In addition, I think he’s very very afraid of not being enough for these people he loves so much. I think in the back of his mind, he has this creeping irrational thought that if he makes too many mistakes, or fails to be useful, or is too much of a burden they won’t want him anymore. After all, that happened over and over again growing up, despite his best efforts to do everything right. Sometimes he needs a little reassurance from Ev that he’s loved unconditionally, and he doesn’t need to prove himself in order to have value. It’s a work in progress for our pocket sized guitarist.

13. What gets them flustered

Oh! Poor little thing, he’s still flustered by a lot!! Don’t get me wrong, he’s overcome his fair share. He’s much more confident in his relationship with Eveline now and doesn’t lose his mind every time she flirts with him. But….Whenever he has fans adoring him he goes bright red. It’s just unfathomable to him that people really like him that much. After such a difficult experience with humans up until this point, it’s impossible for him to wrap his brain around his fans loving him. I could imagine it’d be quite cute to see! He’s probably always doffing his hat and running his hands through his hair, trying to come up with a joke to change the subject.

14. Ingrained habits/forces of habit

Even though he’s come an EXTREMELY long way, it’s still hard for him, sometimes, not to ask for permission or be super polite about some things. So for example, at restaurants, instead of ordering by saying “I’ll have x” he’ll say something more along the lines of “Is there any way I can have x” which is super cute and polite but Ev has gotten in the habit of pointing it out to him to remind him it’s okay to just ask for what he wants. He’s still working on that. He will also apologize for things that aren’t his fault, or that he simply can’t help, and Ev just has to raise an eyebrow and he’ll realize he’s doing it again.

His other ingrained habit is that he got so used to falling asleep despite a ton of chaos and noise around, as people still partied or talked or watched tv or whatever around him, so now it’s almost impossible for him to fall asleep in silence. He prefers to be curled up right next to Eveline and the sound of her breathing is enough to relax him, but if not, he likes to softly play music to help him drift off to sleep.
