Hello, I am interested in playing hellblade: senua's sacrifice but I am also very easily scared while playing typical horror games. What kinda of thriller games would you liken senua's sacrifice to in terms of how much fear it inspires?? The last thriller I played was bioshock but senua's sacrifice looks really good ;v;
I don’t typically play horror games so I don’t have much to compare it to, but if you made it through Bioshock I think you’ll do fine with Hellblade.
I’m not sure I’d call Hellblade horror in the strictest sense - you aren’t threatened with jump-scares or baddies you can’t see hunting you from the dark corners of the map. It’s more a psychological thriller in that you’re dealing with things your protagonist finds terrifying, and Hellblade is pretty good at making that terror contagious with an incredibly atmospheric setting. It’s a game that excels at “quiet creepiness” - you’ll be wandering through a graveyard of burned bodies and have the voices in your head start freaking out in a whispered hush that the darkness is coming, or telling you that you won’t survive your current fight, things of that nature.
I do want to note that the game does deal with trauma, PTSD, and schizophrenia, so if those are sensitive subjects I suggest watching a let’s play or reading a bunch of reviews before diving in to make sure it won’t be overwhelming.
