Dear X, what's the best part of being a parent?
X paused but it didn’t last long. His heart warmed and rose in his chest, spilling out onto his face in a proud smile.
“Knowing she’s mine,” X answered. By ‘she’ he meant Guinevere. The other children in their home were largely Charles and Erik’s, X felt. Gwen, on the other hand, came from him.
“I gave her life,” he went on. “And she gave me a purpose beyond the one I was born into. Before Gwen I...honestly I wasn’t sure if I existed properly. I wanted to believe it but...”
He shook his head. Erik would likely chide him for sure but he didn’t know what that life had been like—to exist as a consciousness with only an astral body. It was jarring, isolating and confusing and so very lonely. Not anymore, X thought and he sat up straighter as he concluded.
“My daughter changed my way of life. She is real and so am I.”
