what happened on your second date with mendel?
Oh god, so he was planning on taking me to this really nice restaurant, and then as soon as we get there, there are no parking spaces! We circle around a few times, but after about the fifth time circling, and him getting frustrated, we ended up going to some Deli down the street, buying two sandwiches. Instead of some fancy dinner, I got an amazing view of a park with a great sandwich and a great man. (Which I thought was better than any fancy dinner could have been.) 💜

120: [ Here’s What I Think About ] Gay Marriage: I honestly never thought I’d have a strong opinion about the subject, until Marvin. Once he and I got past the anger, resentment, and bitterness of our divorce, I was able to begin working through my prejudices. Marvin and Whizzer, Charlotte and Cordelia, these are the couples in this world that should be married. It honestly baffles me that there are actually people out there who think it would be best for Marvin and I to have stayed married. Marvin and Whizzer’s wedding was absolutely beautiful.
118: [ Here’s What I Think About ] Abortion: I’m a liberal woman, what do you think? While I could never get an abortion myself, I understand why certain women need to. It’s not for me to judge.
Ask me Anything
Hi everyone! Ask me anything about me or our very close.. although strange, family.
So what exactly happened with Whizzer and the AIDS fiasco?
That was one of the darkest times in my life. No, scratch that. It was the darkest time in my life.
Whizzer had a really bad health scare in the early 80s. He was diagnosed with a disease we now know as AIDS, but at the time, it was a mystery because neither the Reagans nor the NYC government wanted to do anything about it. Thousands upon thousands died, predominately gay men.
Whizzer was infected, and we all thought he was a goner. Everyone but Jason - too young to truly understand - and Marvin - unable to accept the bleak situation. However, by some miracle, Whizzer did survive. It got really bad for a period, but God must have been looking out for us. Jason claims that it’s because of a bargain he made with God that, to this day, he won’t tell us.
Whizzer has been on medication for a long time now, and is doing very well. Marvin somehow (luckily) didn’t get infected, and has been on PReP since it reached the market. Whizzer helps lead a support group for people living with HIV - Mendel tried to give him therapy tips.
We were all so blessed that Whizzer made it, but so many during those years did not. They remain in all of our hearts, minds, and prayers. However, also in my prayers is thanks that God spared Whizzer.
△ When's the last time you and Mendel had sex

Jason, maybe don’t read this. I’m sorry.
Last Saturday. Jason was at Marvin and Whizzer’s, so Mendel and I had a bit of a date night. ;) He attempted to cook some fancy meal, but soon realized he couldn’t, so I taught him my lasagne recipe (the easiest thing I could think of), and we had fun just laughing and talking like we used to.
What is the most awkward experience you've had with Whizzer?
I am SO GLAD you asked, anonymous. Well, the way I learned that Marvin and Whizzer were more than “friends” may qualify, although that was less awkward and more devastating. However, similar instances occur so frequently it would be very difficult to pin down one moment. Let’s just say I sometimes make Jason wait in the car if we drop by their place unexpectedly.
Trina I heard you're pregnant with a baby Mendel! Tell us about your pregnancy so far. Do you want a girl or boy?
Where did you hear this? As far as I know, I’m not pregnant right now. Mendel and I are thinking of maybe trying in a few years, when Jason’s a bit older. As of right now, we’ve got enough with Jason (and Marvin - don’t worry, Marv, I mostly joke).
In a hypothetical pregnancy, I’d be happy with whatever gender, so long as the baby is happy and healthy. However, I’d love a girl, to even out the numbers in our family. Before Mendel and I became close with Cordelia and Charlotte, I was the only girl! Regardless, I know Mendel would make a great father - he’s already been a great stepfather to Jason.
You know, the more I type this, the more I do want another kid…
