Two Years Past [ Atterria | Cherche ]
There was no turning down Chrom’s request, when he asked that she accompany him to Regna Ferox after being summoned, she swiftly packed her things and met with the small group. The journey had been log, considering they had to ride a carriage there instead of actually flying there via Pegasus. The entire trip, Atterria had busied herself with some books she had brought along, only taking small brakes to gaze out the window and occasionally stretch her limbs whenever they made a pit stop.
Back on the road, she almost found it difficult to believe that it had been over two years since she had visited the icy realm. When familiar frozen mountain tops came into view, a chill ran down her spine as a result of nostalgia and sublime. The tactician, who was now a Grandmaster, was a little caught off guard by the surprisingly warm greetings they received. It was true that Regna Ferox and Ylisse had become powerful allies but even so, this sort of welcoming was unheard of for the hardened country.
All too soon she realized why they had been received so gracious, Regna Ferox was on the brink of war and they required Ylisse’s assistance. This brought a frown to the teal haired tactician; this was exactly what she didn’t want to be involved in. However, always remaining loyal to Chrom and Ylisse, especially after her catastrophic failure in saving Lady Emmeryne all those years back, she had no choice but to reassure Chrom of her everlasting support and aid. All she needed was to gather intelligence on their new foe in order to begin brainstorming their next course of action.
What she hadn’t expected was to see him again, after all this time she had never once forgotten about him. Atterria’s heart had nearly jumped out of her chest when he stepped out into view, a familiar warmness from before emerged inside her. Sapphire eyes glistened like the pool of jewels they were often compared to and while a smile from pure joy began to tug at her lips, she fought it back in an attempt to remain professional.
What followed next only led to more heart ache. The nobleman she had casually befriended and secretly fell in love with over two years ago revealed a great deal about himself to party. He wasn’t just a simple nobleman, he was a high ranked noble, more specifically, a Duke. The news struck Atterria with the same force as any arrow, resulting in a similar agonizing pain though this time, it was only emotional. As he continued to explain his situation, Atterria found herself tuning him out as her mind as thoughts buzzed around in her head. It wasn’t until she heard an unfamiliar woman’s voice that her attention was drawn back to the conversation.
The moment she stepped out, Atterria felt whatever remained of her sanity shatter in to a thousand pieces. She was gorgeous, absolutely breathtaking. Atterria's analytical eyes watched their every exchanged closely, noting how comfortable the two were beside one another. Chemistry and synchronicity seemed to ooze out of the pair, leading the tactician to reach a most horrifying conclusion. It had happened, he had married.
Her entire body froze over, regardless of the heavy coat she wore and the scarf that Frederick had made for her. That was it, she had blown her chances with the archer all those years back by not telling him how she had felt. Her eyes darted away, as the color drained from her features. Not that it would of mattered, she had never stood a chance at winning his affections. They were completely different, she was a broken commoner and he was a highly sophisticated and privileged nobleman... Duke... her love for him had been doomed from the start.
