"Food?" replied Ridley. "Believe me little cub, if I'd wanted this carcass for food, it would've been gone long before you meandered here." Looking away, she continues to scan her surroundings, searching for something still yet unknown. Then, her eyes suddenly fix on a point atop a distant cliff face, and she begins to stalk slowly towards it, then quickening, until she is running at full speed towards the cliff face, keeping her eyes on whatever is on top of it . . .
Ari felt a glimmer of relief when the Deviljho chose to respond to her instead of chasing her away… or worse. She couldn’t quite shake that instinctive fear, but it was nice to know this particular Deviljho wasn’t hungry. The revelation did, however, reinforce her curiosity as to why the Lagombi was dead. Did it do something to annoy the Deviljho? Or had it already been dead when the Deviljho came by?
Ari straightened up as the wyvern looked away, half-inclined to take flight and not look back. But when the Deviljho slowly began to stalk away, picking up speed, her curiosity became overwhelming and pushed her to follow, to find out what had the brute’s attention. Part of her wondered why she was going to willingly chase after a Savage Deviljho.
(You are crazy, Ari. Truly, irreversibly crazy.)
"Wait!"
Abandoning her trepidation, the Barioth sprang forwards in a flurry of movement, racing across the snowy terrain as if gliding. The Deviljho had a head start, but she was one of the fastest wyverns in the tundra. Ari huffed at the exertion of running flat out, not used to running such a distance or at such a fast speed. It was amazing how fast such a big creature was, almost outrunning even herself.
Her eyes scanned the top of the cliffs, wondering what exactly had spurred the Deviljho to chase after it. It was a mystery to Ari what exactly the Savage had seen, but in any case, she wanted to ask her about the Lagombi… even if that would have to wait until this new mystery was solved. She was close on the Deviljho’s heels, ghosting over the snow like the wind.
