OH MY GOSH YOU SAW SPIDER VERSE, I LOVED IT IT WAS SO GOOD
I did!!! Going in I knew I'll love the movie but I never thought I'd love it this much. Like, I already said stuff that I loved about it in my first reblog, but I gotta talk about it more so here it is, one last time, stuff I love about this movie:
The animation. People have already talked about it but I honestly have never seen an animation movie like this, one that isn't trying to be as realistic as possible but leans on its animation instead. I mean, visual effects of stuff that are usually just sound effects, the speech bubbles, the comic panels, they're so unique and so creatively used I'm in awe.
The comedy. Spider-Ham alone is already great, but there are countless other moments that are just as hilarious 😂. "Thanks, New York." "Can you set up an online dating account for your aunt (can't remember the rest of the sentence)?" "Selecting bagel.." *wakes up to a room full of spider webs, doesn't give a fuck and promptly falls back asleep* "It'll fit in your pocket." The rubiks cube, the spider bite, those are just some of my favourite comedic moments.
The references. Not even three minutes into the movie and I already love the references. This movie is very aware of memes about its characters and is not afraid to make fun of itself.
The twists. There's two big villain reveals in this movie and I really love both of them. Especially the second one, just because how emotional that scene feels. We really can feel how betrayed Miles felt. Love it.
The colours, forgot to include this in the animation but. I just love how artistic this movie seems.
The music. I'm typing up this answer while listening to the soundtrack and let me tell you, it's amazing. Idk it just really sounds unique, especially when they introduced Peni, Noir, and Ham. I love it I love it I love it.
The parallels, of which there are a few. Untrained Miles vs Last Battle Miles, the introduction of the Spiders, I love it.
The characters. Each have their own personalities and even other characters other than the spiders have their own motivation and/or arc. Even the Kingpin has a very interesting motive and backstory. The Davis brothers, how Jeff tried to raise his son in his own way, how Aaron is very close to his nephew, how it influences each of their last moments in the movie. And Miles, definitely Miles' arc. I think this gif is enough to explain his development.
