As Halloween approaches, remember,

- You must explicitly invite your vampire friends to your Halloween parties for them to be able to come in.

- Do not try to convince your vampire friends to turn you

- Jokingly not inviting them in, or pretending to threaten them with stakes is not very nice. We may be undead, but we’re not unfeeling.

- Only offer your blood if you mean it. Halloween is a big feeding time, so please do offer up an arm or a neck, but only if you’re really willing,

- and PLEASE, remember, don’t drink and feed! Your blood-alcohol levels can be dangerous to your health, So if you plan to feed your friends, don’t overdo the alcohol.

Hello my friends, apologies for having been gone so long. I have been reminded by a couple of human friends that to those living mortal lives, 6 months is seen as quite a long time, at least in some contexts. They say if I wish to maintain an “online presence” I must be online at least once a week. I shall try my best at this!

Recently, I called the Electricity and Internet people to bring better wifi into the castle. It is much faster now.

The last born kittens from 2024 have grown into young cats. The sanctuary currently has 58 in total. Possibly 59 but I can’t be certain if one of them is one cat or two nearly identical cats.

There was no rat problem this winter, naturally.

The Yule party was quite an event this year, a few guests tasted more like cranberry vodka than human blood.

Does it hurt to be turned

Yes. It is an excruciating and traumatic process for the body. You will feel like you are dying the whole time, it will feel cold, and sharp and achy. Your canine teeth fall out, and fangs grow in over the course of 2 or 3 days, and it hurts the whole time, like teething but worse. I can only describe the feeling of being turned like you can literally feel the life being forcibly pulled like threads on needles from every part of your body at once. You will have no blood. And no sense of life or death, only hunger. And once you have fed, after your fangs have grown in, the pain will slowly subside.

I generally prefer not to think about my own turning, as it was against my will. But It has been a long time. I still remember however, the horror of the process. Waking up underground and feeling like you’re suffocating only to realize your chest is still and breathing brings no relief. And I remember the realization that only after I drank his blood, that I felt a sense of calm. And energy returning to me.

It doesn’t hurt at first, when they bite it hurts a little, like a sting. And then it fades. But once you pass the point which would be death, and reach the point of undeath, it is an extremely unpleasant process.

Apologies for taking a very long time to answer this, It took me quite a while to getting around to watching it.

I quite enjoyed it, regardless of inaccuracies. ^w^

what's it like being a vampire?

Contradictory, in a lot of ways. It’s Lonely, but some of the friends you have will be by your side for centuries. It’s isolating. But I found companionship in caring for cats, and so my castle is a cat sanctuary now. You’re always a little hungry. You don’t feel tired but you don’t really feel energized. You wonder what you’d look like if you could age. You ache and miss the human friends and lovers you had in the past. You have all the time in the world to do any project you want. Sometimes you accidentally nap for several days. You find yourself bored and sick of your home for stretches of time. Sometimes you feel as if you are using others. Sometimes as if you are using yourself, or your body. You save a lot of money on groceries, and heating/cooling. You realize you’ve forgotten skills after 50-60 years of not practicing. you put on the highest SPF they make on cloudy stormy days in Scotland so you can go out. And carry an opaque umbrella. You spend a lot of time thinking about how your lived experience is a metaphor to so many people. You have to hunt so often.

Do you have special abilities like speed or strength? Can you travel far distances quickly? ♾️

Yes. Though how strong depends a bit on how much blood I have been able to consume. Naturally, a vampire is at their strongest when they have consumed more blood.

But yes I do have increased strength, speed, and stamina. I believe this is because being undead, our muscles never grow tired, our hearts don’t speed up, we don’t need to catch our breath. So we are not limited by our bodies telling us to stop or slow down, or that we cannot lift something.

(Mind you, I’ve never tried lifting something like a car, and I wasn’t particularly strong when I was alive.) but I have found that what I can lift is more limited by my ability to get my arms around it, than by it’s weight. But I can say that I’ve never had trouble carrying a human, regardless of weight, and I can confirm that I am strong enough to break somebody’s arm with just my hands.

And I can travel decently far distances quickly, by virtue of the fact that I can go significantly longer than a human without needing to rest or eat. I could pretty easily make a hundred mile round trip (about 50 miles out, 50 miles back) in about 3 hours. Please note that for a human, this would mean going almost the distance of a marathon in about 45 minutes. So a Vampire is capable of running at close to 53 km per hour (I believe that is about 33 mph)

Why are vampires so sexualized

Hmm probably the allure of the mysterious, and also the biting. A lot of people consider biting, especially the neck, to be an erotic act

How do you bite someone to drink but not turn them? Do you have the ability to control your toxin

The short answer is that it isn’t a toxin that turns you into a vampire. The more complex answer is that you just have to learn how to gauge how much blood you can drink from someone without killing them. In order to turn someone you essentially have to drain them of all blood, and push them past the point to death to drawing them back to undeath. So there’s no ‘accidentally’ turning someone.

But just biting someone and drinking their blood doesn’t turn them.
