If they were going to do it on purpose anyway, then why'd they want to preserve... lime-green Umbreon/Ursaring? Barely-a-different-shade Pikachu?

Well, not all shiny forms have been preserved through selective breeding. Nobody makes an effort to safeguard the unnoticeable colourations of shiny banette or pikachu - they might occur in the wild every so often, but they aren’t bred to look that way. And as for the garish shinies of ursaring or espeon...well. You’d be surprised what gets popular.

I don't really mind the use of "app" myself since I've seen "application" used interchangeably with "program" since at least the early XP days, but I can definitely see why it can get on peoples' nerves and can sympathize with it.

It’s just that it’s commonly used these days to refer to programs on phones, and to me it carries a connotation of something that’s simple, sandboxed, and isn’t really all that useful (with the exception of a few apps). It may be different for other people, but I guess I see a regular computer as superior to a phone, and I don’t like the implication that a computer is on the same level as a phone.
