askboo replied to your post “About the end of The Untamed...”
Honestly I kind of felt The Untamed was more romantic in some ways than the novel!
I actually haven’t read the novel, so all my impressions are 95% show-based, but this is something I’ve seen several people say! From what I’ve heard, WWX doesn’t really have an interest in LWJ prior to his death, and it was all one-sided invisible LWJ pining? Maybe interest as a rival, but not as a friend? It’s really confusing because there’ll be things people say are book canon but I don’t understand how that worked in the book if they weren’t close friends in the past, lol.
At first I assumed the whole “even more romantic” thing was just supposed to be a counterweight to the lack of explicit romance, but now I’m not so sure. I feel like having all that romantic close friendship stuff was really important in establishing LWJ as someone WWX would love even without devotion to him. It would be so easy, otherwise, for WWX’s post-death interest in LWJ to seem like it was purely about LWJ worshipping him. Like, “wow, this person really takes good care of me and I like that.” In the show, it’s clear beyond any doubt that he deeply admires LWJ as a human being, and that he was hurt by the fact that he ended up on “the other side” because of his need to use resentful energy.
I’m very confused by how a lot of this would have worked in the novel—I guess it probably helped to have direct access to WWX’s thoughts—but I also don’t really want to read the book so... I’ll just stick to analyzing the show, haha.
God I’m remembering old Spongebob episodes and the past few days reminded me of the bad breath episode. You’re just shoving swap Gordon (catboy maybe) toward everyone shouting “LOOK AT IT! LOOK AT IT!! I WANT ALL OF YOU TO LOOK AT IT!!!”
YOU WILL LOOK AT THE MISTAKES YOU ALL INFULENCED!!!! LOOK AT IT!!!!!!!!!!
