Oh don't worry about it. I still have a pride icons ask from before June.
I’m happy to know I’m not the only person horribly behind on the times
I worry when going to family outings because I just arrived back in my home state after a few years, and during that time I came out as non-binary. Some of my extended family doesn't know this, so I've had to introduce myself to people again. Saying "I'm [name], I'm [parents] child" is all good, but I'm constantly afraid they'll ask "What happened to [deadname]?" Any advice on what to do if this situation ever occurs?
Yeah family gatherings are An Adventure™ when you’re trans.
There’s nothing that universally works for everyone since everyone’s families and situations are different, but one way is to just be blunt about it. If they ask, you can just go “oh, that’s my old name. I’m trans so I don’t use that anymore though” or something similar. It’ll probably lead to some follow-up questions from them, but at least it will clear up the confusion.
If any of my followers have any other suggestions for stuff that have worked for you, please feel free to add to this post!
