razzek Would Zygrow even waste resources creating males? All clones start as female in mammals and it'd be pretty convenient to just not bother with the extra steps to get that Y chromosome. XD
--
That's a really good point! I feel like they would favor males just because they're larger, stronger, and more aggressive. Since these beasts were made specifically for combat situations, I think they'd want to minmax those traits as much as possible. No resources wasted on weaker dogs; they are graded by how efficiently they can shred a mofo and nothing else.
Now that I think of it, the female ironjaws probably don't see combat at all. They'd be kept in the lab where their eggs and any other genetic material could be harvested for cloning purposes, then they'd be terminated. Ironjaw handlers are expensive military units, so they're only assigned to the biggest, baddest beasts.
I don't imagine Zygrow's cloning process resembles the one we have in the real world. I think they're going about it in some fantastical, abstract kind of way.
I am very uneducated about things like this though, so who knows if I'm making any sense here.

Can a ironjaw male still breed
Some of them can, but they have very low sperm counts, and the sperm they do have is often weak and unviable. The female ironjaws are totally unable to carry a pregnancy anyway due to their atrophied sex organs, so this leaves Zygrow no other option but to clone them from sperm and egg they harvested from what few healthy specimens they have left.
This scarcity is becoming a bigger problem as time goes on, leading to increasingly unstable DNA and defective, volatile dogs.

Since dogs are the ultimate wingmen, could this apply doubly so if their human is trying to gain the affection of an elf? Having their dog go on about how cool they are to impress their elven crush? or the dog just spilling all their embarrassing secrets without a care in the world?
What a fun question! I think it really depends on the dog. Just like some people are dumb as rocks and others are geniuses, dogs can have varying levels of intelligence too.
Elves can understand and be understood by animals, but that doesn't mean they can control the animal. I imagine animals have very different thought processes than peoples. They don't focus on the same things we do, so the things they want to talk about may not be what we expect.
A dog's perspective on its human owner would be really interesting to hear. I don't know that a dog would understand human friendship/courtship or the concept of talking up their master to get them a date.
But I could see a dog accidentally incriminating its master by mentioning sketchy/embarrassing stuff they've done. If you're a human on Looming Gaia and you invite your elven friends over for some drinks, consider keeping the dog outside...you never know when Fido's gonna bring up that collection of Bad Dragon products you buried in the back yard.

Bro, you have good taste in roided out mass-monsters!
Thanks bro! They're all huge inspirations for my body goals!
Are Ogre Dogs a popular pet outside of Ogre communities? I just think those ‘lil feisty sausages are neat doggos. :)
Good question! Unfortunately purebred ogre dogs only obey ogres, so they make poor pets for other peoples. They simply did not evolve to see other peoples as part of their pack the way they see ogres. It took thousands of years of selective breeding to achieve their ogre-focused behaviors.
However, there are ogre dog hybrids that tend to have more obedient temperaments. Humans like to breed them with Timberland tattlers and gnomish war beasts in particular, two breeds which naturally obey humans the way ogre dogs obey ogres. Some of these hybrids can look pretty similar to purebreds, so you get all the cuteness with less of the disobedience!

As someone who grew up around Pit Bulls, i cant help but want to give the Iron Jaws love. Even if they could rip my face off. I would name it Cupcake.
I imagine ironjaws can be friendly under the right conditions. They might be genetically-engineered monstrosities, but at their core they're still just dogs. They like playing fetch, belly scratches, and eating treats just like any other dog! They just need special trainers who understand their temperaments.
By the way, you totally inspired me...Zareenite officers traditionally give their ironjaws ironic names like Cupcake, Snuggles, Baby, Tiny, etc.
I declare it canon!
