first!! first!!!! my ramble you would probably love gushing about how utterly fucking terrifying i think sanford is. honestly i think he is scarier than hank when he's in the zone. that man wants to hurt you. hank just wants you dead. PLEASE HE'S SO SCARY YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!!!

despite my belief that he is absolutely terrifying i think he's wholeass just a normal guy most of the time, like, outside of the combat and the sabotage. and that actually makes him even worse. he's the type to hide his crimes against humanity in his basement. and/or leave them out on a sidewalk in front of a building as warnings to groups he doesnt like

i think sanford is a passenger princess. this is kind of supported by canon, this man only drives once. i am obsessed and stubborn about this. i think sanford doesnt like driving. i think he likes hanging out the side taking potshots at pursuers. however, he CAN drive, and will if deimos has important shit he needs to do on the way to their destination. and i dont think he likes being the passenger when doc is driving, because he doesnt have a death wish. he lets deimos have the passenger seat under this circumstance, deimos doesn't even realize.

i headcanon that sanford has a very low pain tolerance, compared to everyone else in the group at least (still probably pretty high for a grunt). yes this makes mc11/mc12 even more miserable for him :))))

because sanford lacks the "traitor" charge on his poster like deimos has, i think he never worked for the AAHW. not sure people can be fired from an agency like that.

i think sanford is just as capable of being a goofball as deimos due to his participation in the rift scene. and i think them doing shitty bets together is canon even though that was only in an incident

romp.fla makes me think this man has paranoia, or is a lot more skeptical when things are peaceful, which im a big fan of for deimos-related reasons

I keep characterizing dyle as rude or sarcastic and kind of cruel at times as a way to contrast his well-kept exterior and i catch myself doing so and go back to his gossip where that's far from the truth. it is fun that he's inexplicably just Normal and nice and polite and views the rest of the toons as kinda weird as a contrast but to me it's kinda.. boring? idk. it may just be me trying to make him like other characters I like however I think that the dude who spent his entire life in a basement would have a skewed view of the world. for example I have a comic idea about how dandy got dyle to truly laugh for the first time when he broke his tooth.

I like to think that Dyle was WAYYYYY more purposefully rude/standoffish to the toons at least early on, when he first met them. His floor strongly implies that, at some point, he hated their guts. It seems he's moved out of that sort of thinking these days, outside of his twisted, but... yes, it is interesting to imagine, isn't it? He certainly has all the reason in the world to be a bit of an ass!

Although, calling him 'normal' may be a bit of a stretch. I don't exactly have much in the way of evidence for it, but I suspect he isn't very talkative outside of showing interest in what others are up to. He doesn't like others getting too close to him, literally and figuratively. Doesn't really let them know his view of things while in conversation with him- he's agreeable, and just goes along with whatever the other toon is doing or talking about, keeping quiet the rest of the time. All we ever hear about him from other toons is how helpful and encouraging he is. What about him? Is he ever... selfish?

I feel like it may be on purpose. As someone who's been in a similar situation as him, it's all awfully familiar to me. But I can get into why I think he might be like this some other day.

Anyway, I can see it being fun, even if it isn't perfectly canon-compliant. To let Dyle hold onto that implied resentment a little more, or have an eccentric rudeness that can come from being alone too long, or having spent so much time disliking the toons above that it's baked into his way of talking even if he doesn't actually mind them anymore, or simply not valuing others' opinions, maybe kinda poking fun at them a bit... Dyle's concept could have gone many ways, not all of which are kind. Play tuoys with him forever. Also, I LOVE your comic idea- letting him be a little unempathetic with it I see... how flavorful...

Do you think the toons have birthdays? Do you think they were allowed to celebrate them, whether publicly or privately?

Do you think Dyle had a birthday? Assuming his release date alongside Brusha is his birthday(though set WAY back for obvious reasons) do you think he would've been allowed to celebrate it? Do you think he would've known he even HAD a birthday?

Did Arthur or Delilah ever casually mention that he had a birthday, and it would take Dyle months or even years to realize how significant it was?

Do you think that, after he saw another toon celebrating their birthday, that he suddenly realized that he was supposed to celebrate it, instead of just treating it like another day?

Do you think he ever got to truly celebrate it? Even if he only had a cupcake and a single candle, since he never kept track of the numbers until now?

1- Regarding toon birthdays I think what happens is a bit odd. Toons have their in-show birthdays, and they also have the days they were created. Most toons celebrate their in-show birthday. Exceptions to that are rare. For example, if Brusha cared for celebrating her own birthday, she'd have it for the day she was created, continuing her theme of rejecting the narrative built for her. The more a toon rejects sticking to their show role, the more likely they are to celebrate their actual creation day as their birthday, I'd say.

2- Does Dyle know his birthday? I know that if you want to be broad, Dyle is a clock, but- he's specifically a pocket watch, probably the kind conductors manually set to sync up the train schedules. So, funnily enough, I don't subscribe to the idea of him having a perfect internal timer. He would have no idea what day he was made. He's still really good at tracking time, but he doesn't have anything built in for knowing the specific date without external knowledge. He doesn't even know exactly how long a 'year' is.

Arthur and Delilah would call his birthday his "creation date" or "the day he was made". Would he even remember it? It would've been so long ago...

Because I'm fucking evil, I'm in the camp of 'no'.

3- Does Dyle celebrate his birthday? I think he does! If he either found notes/logs about his creation made by the founders, or remembers how long ago he was made and did the math, then I guess he would celebrate it on that day. Otherwise, Dyle's birthday would be agreed upon by him and the other toons to be the day he joined them. This conversation would happen after he witnesses a toon celebrating a birthday for the first time. Other toons would realize they don't know his and ask, because they don't want to leave him out, and he's kind of envious anyway so that's fine by him.

4- How does Dyle celebrate his birthday? Dyle's first birthday was HUGE! He admitted when he was asked that he'd never celebrated his before, and the toons were appalled! They got to work making the best party for him right away, to make up for all the years of celebration he lost. So much activity and attention wasn't his style at all, so it actually ended up being quite distressing, but in the end he appreciated the sentiment. I like to think that his chosen birthday for the year passed already, so they weren't going to make this man wait another year.

The celebrations get calmer as the toons get to know him better. There is always a cake, which he protests sometimes (a birthday without some kind of large cake is blasphemy as far as Sprout's concerned, but Dyle would rather have some other, smaller kind of dessert). If they know how long he's existed for, then there's an appropriate amount of candles for that, otherwise once again it's however many years he's been with the toons.

After the toons are done partying with him, Dyle celebrates on his own. He's a very solitary man, after all. He makes sure before his birthday that he'll have the next two days off of his train duties. After night comes, and the toons turn in to sleep, Dyle goes on the train and treats himself to a night outside. He stays up all night doing whatever he feels like out there, and comes back at dawn totally exhausted but happy. Dandy's the only one who sees him at that time, and he gets SO jealous. Dyle only indulges himself like this once or twice a year.

Dyle's birthdays are a much-welcomed reminder that he is free, and that he is loved, no matter how alone he might feel the rest of the year. He's more than just a servant, now. They want him to know that he is their friend. Maybe Dyle will see that some day.

3 ideas for gender-affirming care for toons

1) Human materials. Dyle gets tape, binders, packers, etc for the trans toons, all appropriately sized ofc since the toons are about the size of children to humans(how dyle would acquire a packer that isn't absurdly large, idk)

2) Toon materials. Somehow they learn to manipulate concentrated ichor into something that they can press and fuse to their bodies, or maybe they can get Dandy to do a quick surgery on them to remove some parts(it's implied that Dandy is the only one that truly knows how the ichor works besides Delilah, so he would probably know how to do surgery with it)

3) A separate compromise. Toons use excess fabric, bandages, or makeup items to affirm themselves. Transfem Poppy puts some ribbons in her dress to puff out her chest more, Glisten gets help from Sprout and Vee to bind his chest with his bow, and Cosmo feels affirmed as a trans man with his freckles drawing the attention instead of his eyelashes

3 sounds like the most common way it would be done. It would be the most readily available too, requiring no additional knowledge or outside materials. But... it sounds annoying. Toons could definitely resort to it, but it doesn't seem preferrable. Doing it makeshift like that is a sensory nightmare to a human and even potentially harmful, but toons are more artificial, made of different stuff, so perhaps it wouldn't be so intrusive to them?

1 and 2 sort of make me wonder. Maybe a trans toon's needs could depend a lot on what you think the general anatomy of a toon is- whether they mirror proper living creatures like us, or if they're blank. If they did mirror us, then much like how they eat human food to avoid starving, could HRT help them as well? Would anesthetics and surgeries still work? Do they have organs? If they didn't resemble us, could they want treatments/surgeries so that they did anyway...? Would that be affirming to them...? How would a toon transition if not? Just... adding or removing eyelashes? Things I suppose I should ponder...

Allow me to rant for a moment oh clock man enjoyer

I think most people in the fandom believe that Dyle dislikes physical touch in general because of this dialogue ↓

But I think it's something else

One of the lines says "i rather people ask me before they go and hug me and what not."

And that makes me firmly believe that Dyle does appreciate touch, but only when he's informed beforehand, like if he's asked permission for someone to hug him (evidence for autism dyle..)

I also think he's ok with touch if he's the one initiating it, like he's holding out his hand first to shake or he's pulling someone else into a hug. It's just when toons touch or hug him unprompted that makes him so peeved, and ppl kinda missed that from what I've been reading

Further evidence I have for this is:

Dyle handing the box to Sprout in the special delivery short(their hands get close, but don't touch, but i think it counts because dyle only recoils once sprout comes back to check on him)

Dyle leaving candy out for Yatta(not touch related, but maybe he's held some out towards a shadow and watched a ribbon take it from him)

I'm of similar opinion! I understand why people would think he dislikes all touch and only barely tolerates it when properly requested. But, I just do not agree. Not that I think they're wrong, I just interpret it differently.

He'd certainly be okay with touch he initiates himself. Dyle knows his own limits. Anyway,

Contact can be quite overwhelming for people who've been without it, and sometimes that can be pleasant- if it's coming from someone who's loved. I'm doubtful he would clarify that directly, since either that's none of our business, he himself doesn't even know, or he figured he implied it well enough. If Dyle liked someone that much, and he consented to it, I think he could actually enjoy it.

Unfortunately, he's had no one like that in his life.

i really really like how coding is integrated into the reality of madness combat. so with that i offer: literal billions of unused objects in reality's code that can be "spawned in" if you know how. such as mangoes

it's not something ive mentioned before, but i like to think that the reality outside of Nevada gets more and more corrupted by garbage data and stored variables the deeper into it you get, resulting in a landscape that is constantly and nonsensically changing. you might find legendary glitch monsters and items for your troubles, if you're really lucky. think about glitches from pokemon red/blue/yellow. that's what im thinking of here. might make an entire post about it some day

i like to think the arena mode cast of SQ is still alive and well and around in the show. because it'd make me sad otherwise. i haven't even played mpn2 yet i don't know them. but i need them to be around.

i headcanon that doc likes his luxury items. this is not unique, but it is whimsical. i also think he's a gamer. and that he and deimos play minecraft together sometimes. don't worry, they infuriate eachother.
