Gillian was nervous. Nervous and excited. Months of preparation and research had led him to where he was at the start of the Holy Grail War. Copious amounts of research suggested that the summoning of the truly divine was theoretically possible under the conditions. Gillian wanted to try it out and had gone to almost the ends of the earth to find the perfect token.
It was an idol. A perfectly preserved idol of a Mesopotamian (later Babylonian) Goddess. He set the unblemished idol in the center of the circle and began. His body ran hot as he spoke the incantation, pain sparking along magical circuits at the intense outpouring of mana.
“Answer my call, guardian of scales!”
He was blinded by a bright light for a few moments. Did it work? Had he summoned Ishtar?
