“Say März, what would happen if you added more calming herbs to the brew?”
Hilda had slid into the empty seat next to the boy and started a conversation as he worked on his remedies. She’d pose the curious question and ooh and ahh at his expertise, and while she did find his skill impressive and compliments easy to come by, it would be a lie to say that she was seeking knowledge for knowledge’s sake.
Hilda’s eyes swept the room one quick time to check that no professors were present. That Claude must be rubbing off on her, because now she was thinking like a schemer. And a schemer she wasn’t. If you were to ask her, even “accomplice” and “partner-in-crime” sounded like too much responsibility. She was simply a friend doing a friend a favor, one she knew Claude would remember.
Satisfied with the results of her inspection, Hilda got to the point. She flashed März her most innocent look. “Could it even put someone to sleep?“
