There were several reasons. The shame I would have had to endure, grovelling before the Powers and begging for their pardon, would have been too great.

I would have met there some who I'd rather not have met again. Old... friends who I did not want to see me as the failure I was.

And I was certain by that point that the Powers had abandoned the world. That the War had taught them to never again intervene in Middle-Earth.

I thought I could start anew.

Glorfindel prefers sunny, warm weather to any other sort, for the simple reason that it warms him gently and isn’t too hot. When the sun is out on a coolish day he will feel warmer and happier than if it was the middle of summer and he was too hot (because memories of balrogs), or the middle of winter when it is cold (the Helcaraxë being the reason why).
