I know how you feel. In fact, I'm not sure whether I suffer from seeking on being a perfectionist artist or lazy. I keep sketching and telling myself that I want to finish it on paint tool sai, and I never see myself completing it. And when it does, it looks so incomplete. My recent artwork is a perfect example. Sometimes I wonder what's the point if my art isn't going to gain attention or it will be ignored because its not a fan art or a magnificent original piece.
I think I’ve heard it said somewhere before, but the unfortunate thing is that fan-art tends to be more popular because people already connect with the characters that they’re familiar with, but an original piece needs to build that up from scratch. I know that it’s disheartening when it seems like everyone passes over your stuff, though. This is why I tend to recommend that people don’t get into doing art on social media sites like tumblr for fame and recognition, you should do it because you enjoy it. Just do what you enjoy, and don’t worry about the audience if you can help it, you know?
