7. A memory they want to forget
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.”
The clash of weapons against wood, the splintering of the carriage they sat within as an axe blade pierced though it. The screams of the other mother and child across from him.
“You make me happy, when skies are grey.”
The entire carriage rocked, The sounds of horses baying in fear and men screaming as they were silenced with the sharp edge of an axe. The door was yanked open, shattering as it was pulled from its hinges. The shadows of giant orange skinned beings entering. The terrified screams of the other woman and child. Silenced. The thud of something heavy and wet. The feel of something hot on his face falling down his skin.
A blade too small, too short finding the thick muscled neck of a giant. A giant who’s revolting teeth grinned and deep booming voice laughed with delight. The sight of a woman with no distinguishable face, only shadows and ghostly features forced to her knees by a harsh heavy blow. Crimson trickling down her face, a kind loving smile filling what seemed like lips.
“You’ll never know dear, how much I love you.”
The tears of cloth, the wet crude sound of a blade sliding across someone’s skin. The hot crimson rush of bloody entrails spilling into his lap. The weight of a limp body now pinning him to the floor. A familiar wet blood soaked hand reaching for his. He can almost see her face, almost make out the detail.
“Please don’t… take… my sun… shine…. away……”
A harsh pain suddenly in the back of his head, as it all goes black.
A sudden frantic breath, the widening of his eyes and the base of his heartbeat beating in his ears. A hand quickly reaching up and shakily running down the length of the scar behind his head. Ah yes, this dream. And as always, he still can’t remember the face. As he sat there in a daze, he slowly laid back in bed as he closed his eyes humming a familiar toon.
