I'll do spn, mha, or fire emblem three houses. Potentially others but those are my hyper fixations rn/eternally.

I'm rereading my fanfic and remembering how fulfilled I felt, wishing I could find that happiness again, but the inspiration for the words isn't there. So. Prompts appreciated.

Q: You wish your art was more... (fill in the blank)

A: Again, I wish my art was more regenerative versus draining. I enjoy art, but sometimes trying to get into it can feel like hitting a rut.

Q: What's the hardest thing for you to draw?

A: Detailed furniture and architecture. I love intricate backgrounds because they really pull a piece together, but my brain is not built for it. This also socks because one of the side plots in my main comic is primarily about architecture. Ugh. Perhaps I should get back into model building.

Q: How many layers do you typically use?

A: It really does depend... typically I'll use one or two for the sketch, one for the lineart, two for the colors (which I merge) and one for the shading. But depending on the grounds, lighting, and completely of the piece it could be more. 5-50 is a good range for a finished comic panel or full piece. Most of my layers are named and placed in folders as well.

Q: Do you do warmup sketches before drawing? (Bonus: do you have any to share?)

A: I sorta consider the thumbnail/sketch to be part of the warmup. Otherwise no.

I used to, but I don't think I have the files anymore.

I really how you write Mai in your stories. I want to take a crack at it but can't quite get the tone right. Do you have any suggestions or tips?

That's actually a really tough question to answer. Every writer has their own style and process, and what works for me won't necessarily work for you. I'll give it a shot though. To start with, I'd suggest taking a moment to figure out what you think of Mai as a character. Basically, it comes down to a question of interpretation, and what you intend your story to be.

Mai isn't a very well written character, so there's a lot of blank space to play with in her. My advice would be to figure out what you think her motives are. As for me, I stick with what I see as her most consistent traits- that she's very, very selfish and mean. I read Mai as a Karen in the most classical sense. She is self-involved, classist, and if it exist in the universe she's in, she's probably racist. Mai is a high school mean girl. She's the obnoxious client who's rude to a service worker because she thinks they're beneath her. She is a child who resents her parents because they had to move for her father's promotion.

Once you figure out what you think her motives are, you have to give her a voice. For me, that's literal because I "hear" the characters talking when I write. When I write, it's like I'm just observing the characters interact and describing what I see and hear. It might work different for you, but I think figuring out who you think Mai is as a character is the place to start
