Business isn’t as simple as sales,in contrary sadly YG is doing rather good actually, now yes yes sale wise they have seen brighter days but bear with me here. As a company, they have been grown immensely, seen as they are planning to move out in a bigger building (hopefully with a better management)So there are many aspects of business, but stepwise. A comeback is always more of a cost as a win for a company. Because buying a song costs, its a back and forth till everyone is happy, and time again costs. YG has its main producer under contract, Teddy, this means its still costly, but less expensive than to hire another company to do it. It also means less way between production, customizing and studio. MV’s are extremely costly, and in contrary to SM past box MV’s YG is known to be quite artistic with there MV. 2ne1 - Hurt for examples. It’s super costly, the more location and takes an MV has the more it cost, director, staff, costume, editing, cutting, special effects cost, they also take time, and again time is expensive. So the real win and cash don’t come from album sales, it comes from touring. Hence YG business plan apparently is as few comebacks as possible: Again remember comeback costs, while touring brings in money. So let his artist have as many concerts and meet and greets as possible till the atm’s fans are tired of the same song and only then the cashcows artists are allowed to have a comeback. So this has nothing to do with being professional or wanting to only produce quality stuff, it is and has always been YG way of making business. Also, YG has an immense amount of sub-labels, not just the views we are aware of, but also the side labels which aren’t officially under his name. Sunmi’s current label is rumored to be a side label of YG, out of obvious reason, they must have some sort of ties to get teddy to produce her songs. Whatever true or not, the company can have stock and investments in other companies bringing them back profit. Also, YG has a huge brand worth, thanks to all of us. Hence papa YG is still a (sickening) thing, it’s the image he gave his brand, nothing more.
So sales don’t define YG power as a company, it takes a lot more to fall and crumble, but the loss of BigBang certainly will be felt in the annual account.
