So, Thursday rolls around and I get picked up by two of my wonderful friends (Deano and Phos), who drove all the way from Philly to come to this convention (and are on the road as I type this. Drive safe, guys). We were all so excited, and despite some minor mishaps, got to our third friend (Sammeh)'s house safely, though a bit later than we would have liked. We goofed around, had fun, giggled over the fact that we were all finally together in person and how cool that was.
So, we finally got to sleep that night and woke up bright and early to get into cosplay, pack up the car, and head over to the convention. We were able to check into the hotel room early, which was excellent, so we got settled and hung out before going to the con to get our passes and head into the first panel. Instantly, we started off with a win when our dear Britt won an award and $100 voucher for an AMAZING supernatural fan video, which incidentally introduced the actor who played the character featured in said fan video (who loved the video, as a note). What a great way to start the con, right? We watched the panel (Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr), had a lot of laughs, generally had a good time just hanging out in cosplay. Britt was kind enough to share her prize with all of us, since we'd been her moral support and test audience, so we got some cool things. We then went to the Osric Chau panel, who was too adorably dressed as Princess Bubblegum. He was too cute. Went back up to the room, got changed out of cosplay and got dressed for karaoke, and headed down for that when it was time. Karaoke was pretty fun, since most of the guests running it were really drunk. We met up with two more friends (Die and Cris), rounding out our fantastic group for the convention (though we did pick up more friends). All in all the day was good, except for when Phos and I accidentally ate mouldy powdered donuts for breakfast (but we don't talk about that) and Phos, Sammeh and I walked a good bit to find a CVS that didn't exist.
Now Saturday. Saturday is when things got good. We got all dressed up as our big fun group for the weekend, which was Chuck's Angels. I was Chuck, Deano was Gabriel, Sammeh was obviously Michael, and Phos was her always amazing Lucifer. (Die was dressed as a wonderful Death and Cris was rocking it in her Bobby shirt.) We had plans to enter the costume contest later that day and were generally pumped because of the photo ops, autographs, and panels that were planned for the day. So, Richard Speight Jr and Matt Cohen are queued up first to kick of the day for panels. The panel starts off normally, and Speight (who was also the host) mentioned the guests that were going to be at the con that day. Since Misha was there, they decided to joke around and tease a few Cas cosplayers. They called them up on stage, teased them a bit, and then had them sit down.
But here's where it gets good. So, they decide to see if /they/ have anyone cosplaying their characters. What a coincidence, they did. Our dear Gabriel and Michael got called up to the stage, and Richard and Matt tell us all that our friends were going to run the panel insteand and just walked off the stage. Instead of being shy, our Gabriel and Michael owned it. Gabriel just takes off and starts improving, mostly in character with some mentions of their journey to the actual con.
And then Gabriel and Michael (mostly our dear Gabriel) decided to drag me and Phos up on stage. Yeah. So, the four of us are on stage, kind of more or less running the panel. Richard and Matt are, of course, laughing and enjoying this hijacking of their panel. And then they decide to ask us questions. Matt mock asks our Michael a convoluted question, which was hilarious and reblogged last night on this blog. Richard was going to ask a question, but really couldn't beat what Matt had said. So they get back on stage and thank us for coming up and what not.
And then they call me back up there alone. I was shaking and kind of mildly freaking out when I went back up there, so I really can't remember the specifics of what they said. But they were saying that whenever people dressed up like Rob (who plays Chuck), they always do the version with the bathrobe and boxers, and how it was funny because of the way Rob really is. So they chat kind of at me, mostly at the audience, before patting me on the back and sending me back to my seat.
The panel continued on, and it was beautiful and hilarious. After the panel, we kind of got swarmed with people wanting pictures, which was so fun and we all loved meeting people. And then there were photo ops and general con fun, as well as some food. Before we know it, costume contest time.
So, by now, we're all walking on cloud 9. Happy as can be, excited for the contest. The contest was crowd voted and you didn't have to sign up. There were some really good costumes, and a lot of people. We had some tough competition, but in the end we won. We won a certificate for $250 con dollars, and we were so excited. Again, people were congratulating us after the contest and wanting pictures, which was just so much fun. We hung out some more, went to another panel (Mark Pellegrino and Misha Collins), and just generally enjoyed the con. There were photo ops and autographs and plans to get alcohol to celebrate, though the latter fell through. I, unfortunately, could not afford to get any photos or autographs, so I decided to go to the hotel bar (still dressed as Chuck) and have a drink while waiting for people to finish up with whatever. Right after I finished my first drink, Richard Speight Jr comes walking by. I walked over to him and asked for a hug after explaining that I was one of the ones that helped hijack his panel, which he remembered. He said "It's kind of weird hugging Rob Benedict", which I took as a compliment. I told him we had ended up winning the costume contest, and that it was thanks to him because he let us hijack the panel. Unfortunately, he had somewhere to be, so I went back to the bar, where I was shortly joined by my lovely friends. We had a lot of fun, celebrated with new friends like the lovely Abaddon, and ended up going to bed early, surprisingly.
Sunday was another early morning start, and kind of our lazy day since we all were just so happy with the way the weekend had been going. Didn't think it could get much better, but I ended up being able to see the Jared and Jensen panel that I didn't think I'd be able to see and we had a lot of fun. After that panel, Phos, the lovely Abaddon, and I went to go on a food run. We go through one set of doors of the hotel and ran into none other than Mark Pellegrino. Phos and Abaddon snapped a quick photo with him, and we were all reeling that our luck was still holding out. There were photos to be obtained and autographs to get, and before we knew it, the con was over. We went back over to Sammeh's tumblr'd for a while, and then crashed so we could get out early start today. And now, I am home. So that was my weekend.
