Leave a “Haunt Me” in my ask, and I’ll write a drabble about my character watching over yours[as a ghost, watching from a distance, or otherwise, feel free to specify.]
It happened again. Mia had overdone it. She had gave in to temptation and didn’t pace herself. She didn’t stop to think about what could happen. She just needed that high. She needed to escape her reality and numb herself. Lift herself. Mia had done exactly that. However her heart couldn’t take it. As she laid in her bed, riding out her high, she started to convulse. In the muffled distance she could hear a banging at her door. But Mia couldn’t do anything about it. The convulsions made her body jerk off the bed and onto the floor.
Her phone was buzzing on her nightstand, the screen lighting up with Norman’s contact info. Mia’s body stilled as one last breath left her lips. She watched from across the room. It was like slow motion as the door was crashed in. Norman came running into the apartmen and to Mia’s room, kneeling next to her lifeless body. As she watched him shake her and yell her name, she slowly walked across the room. Was this some sort of out of body experience? Was she dead? Mia reached forward, trying to put a hand on Norman’s shoulder but she couldn’t touch him. She noticed him still for a moment but then continue to try and revive her. He started pumping his hands on her chest, desperate words coming from his mouth. “Come on, Mia. Don’t give up now. Come back.”
Mia knelt beside him, watching his face. It was determined. Other emotions were there. Fear, sadness. He cared. It was a relief. Sometimes she thought her own brother didn’t care. That Olivia and Eric were past the point of caring. They weren’t the ones who were here now. It was the guy who shared a similar addiction. He continued to pump her chest, breathing air into her mouth without success. Mia felt herself slipping as she watched. She looked so small in his arms. So pitiful and sad. Mia stood and backed away, shaking her head. “I’m so sorry.” She whispered, knowing he couldn’t hear it.
