Saying Goodbye
((A short story I wrote. I never really got into how Sigrada dealt with Yeva's death. This is how.))
The days were endless, dragging on and on. Sigarda threw herself into the motions of it, trying to keep herself occupied as much as possible. The little sleep she got was troubled. She would awake in the night, a cold sweat covering her body and her mind troubled. She never went back to sleep once she was awake. Her thoughts were plauged with dainty features, blonde hair, and a beautiful smile. The curves of Yeva's body haunted her dreams. They always started out nice, soothing. Being held by the other woman. Being told it was going to be okay. And just like that she was ripped away. In every dream it was a diffrent cause of death, all violent and gruesome and Sigarda was always helpless to save her. She cursed her heart and the love she had given to that lovely creature. She kept going, running on almost no sleep and refusing to eat anything even when her body demanded it. She kept herself busy and productive so no one noticed the self destruction. One day, while helping a child get a cat from a tree, Sigarda collapsed. When she awoke, Avacyn was standing over her. She was instantly filled with dread and fear. She already know what the woman was going to say. "You're behaving recklessly Sigarda. It's selfish." the angel snapped. Sigarda winced and nodded, not saying a word. She couldn't bring herself to speak due to the guilt and shame she felt. She was shocked when Avacyn pulled her into a hug. "Get yourself together. You're stronger than this. I know it was difficult, learning about Yeva's death, but you of all people should know that death can claim any life." she said softly, taking Sigarda's head in her hands. "You have to try. You have to keep fighting and keep living. Not only am I commanding you do this but you know in your heart it's what she would have wanted." Avacyn said, eyeing Sigarda's face. The other angel broke down into tears, allowing herself the chance to mourn and cry for the first time since she was told about Yeva's death. Avacyn let go of her, standing away. "I want you back on your feet as soon as possible. We can't have one of our best in bed wallowing in self pitty. You have to get up and try Sigarda. Innistrad is depending on you." she said before leaving. --- Sigarda cried for a long time after Avacyn left. The next day she got out of bed, got dressed, and got right back to work. She was right. It was selfish to do what she had done. Innistrad needed her at her best and if her mind was plagued with Yeva she couldn't be what the people needed. She flew to a spot in the forest, isolated from the rest of the world. She place a single flower on the ground in a clearing. It was so beautiful there. "Yeva would have liked this place I think." she said softly. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting go. "Good Bye Yeva. I'll always love you." she whispered to the wind before flying away.
