TIME
Thinking about projects spanning across time.... A version of cage’s ‘As slow as possible’ sees the duration of an artwork go beyond the life of a human - in fact many!! 639 years!!! Personally I think generous to create something in a selfless way, for future generations (if they take it up or not).
What happens when something is experienced incredibly slow? Notes become broken down, singular, reduced, minimal, abstract and indistinguishable as “music”. How could a similar approach be applied to painting?
Saw a man about a very special organ + 639 year-long performance taking place in a 1000 year-old church in a small sleepy town in central Germany. Read more about it in the Summer edition of my quarterly newsletter thing (out next week I hope) — sign up at patrickshen.com. #johncage #aslsp
