authurdentistry tagged me and I love me a book so hey why not?! Thanks friend!
Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.
The Passion by Jeannette Winterson (all her books really were very important to me and she's brilliant and I don't even know if this one is my favorite but maybe it was the first? for some reason this one. Lesbian geniuses are always important)
The Baroque Trilogy by Neal Stephenson (who is the exact opposite of a lesbian but man I really enjoy his books. A lot. Also The Diamond Age which is my other favorite)
Other Powers by Barbara Goldsmith (fuck this book is so good. Everyone should read it but I'm pretty sure in all the years I've been saying that no one has. Their loss, I enjoyed this book so dang much you don't even know. Victoria Woodhull is my #1 lady. I should make a powerpoint about her, tumblr would fucking love this woman. She was a dirt poor backwoods con artist who became one of the most influential women in the US for many years, a whore, sort of a feminist, an anti-racist, the first woman to run for POTUS, responsible for a major national financial crisis, and when she was eventually run out of the US moved (destitute) to England where she turned up a few years later married to a Lord! She is my hero)
all the old Maggie and Hopey Love and Rockets comics by Jaime Hernandez
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (just reread this for the first time in years and yeah it still gave me chills and made me sob like a lunatic at the end because I was so moved and stirred. When I was a teenager I thought I'd get a crescent moon tattooed at my hairline- I'm actually surprised I never did that)
The Dialectic of Sex by Shulamith Firestone is my fucking bible even though actually Robin Morgan was more formative for me. But she's kinda problematic. And Shulamith is my girl.
England's Dreaming by Jon Savage and Lipstick Traces by Greil Marcus
Neuromancer by William Gibson (you wouldn't believe how many times I've read this trilogy. Or I mean, you know I'm a fangirl and have seen my ability to obsess so maybe you would )
And right now I am reading everything I can round up by Hilton Als and loving it so much-- hello new favorite person/author in the world. I want very much to meet him and hang out with him and be his new BFF. I think this is more realistic than some things, in any case...
