don't mind this ignorant bitch really she is fetishizing murders and fangirling over psychopaths.
Yeah, it just gets on my nerves when I get comments like that.
Like, it’s always the first thing anyone jumps to. That I’m “uneducated”.
And here’s the most important thing, that I didn’t say in my response because it’s not that snappy:
Academia is not immune to outside criticism!
In fact, outside criticism is both vital and wanted in many areas of study. A LOT of academic history in the West can be traced back to colonialist ideas that required an outside perspective to challenge.
Education and information are not the sole domain of academic institutions, especially not in the digital age.
I would argue that what academia offers is a community of fellow researchers, education on how to carry out thorough and ethical research (and a peer review process), and the means through which to fund said research.
It does NOT act as the be all and end all of unquestionable human knowledge.
Academics get stuff wrong. Ideas evolve over time. Ignoring outside criticism is a slowing down of that evolution and a disservice to both academia and people as a whole.
I mean, randos on the internet can be wrong (see: any alt-right calls for banning the social sciences) but they’re not wrong because they’re randos on the internet.
If your only argument is PhD or GTFO, you don’t have an argument.
