Ok so far this whole blog / reflective journal thing is not going so well, one post for three weeks of work... but what have we done in that time, looked at how design works as a concept, had insight from what where two really interesting guest lecturers, looked at chairs and the way that design effects even the most basic of items, and discovered that I work best to a dead line... Design is a bit of a odd Subject, really, when you think about it, I can't say I have really learnt anything from the subject in the same way I have from my other subjects but I am taking in a huge amount of info. This begs the question , what am I taking in if I don't have any work to show for it? When I think about this I think that is the reason why the journal is the assement of choice, because we are learning the process and the way of thinking independtly that happens behind any good design. I mean sure anyone can design somthing, but it will be complete rubbish - defiantly not as good as it could have been- and that's what we are learning, to avoid. So back to what I am ment to be blabbing about, things actually discused in the lecture, I guess lecture two is a good as place as any to start. I will admit all the talk of non- linear designing made be excited, being a person who has used mind maps for note taking since grade 10 I already don't think in such a linear way ( it is fun showing them to other people just to watch them try to work out what is going on somtimes...), although even my thought have a linear side to them. It is odd that after going to school for 12 years to learn how to follow instructions ( and some skills I guess) and think thought things linearly that I am now been told that the best design is done in a only semi linear fashion. Does this mean that people who only achived average marks will do well in design? This concept of lose planning and structure makes perfect sense to me, while you need some structure to make sure you stay is the right direction their is no need to leave somthing in a - incorrect doesn't really fit here...- wrong-?- state if you can go back and redesign a section of it to make it better with the clarity of forsight. I think I need to post these closer to the lecture date stuff is starting to get a bit hard to remember, but in the next few weeks I hope to catch this blog up to the current matter been discused in lecture. Next up some of the activities! It shouldn't be to hard, I have a half hour train journey.....
