When we enter the society, we realize the importance of emotional quotation. Emotional quotation is actually many different masks for each person to hide their feelings.
People in today's society are hiding their true feelings. The mask is the main object of this film. The existence of masks magnifies people's emotions and attitudes on the appearance, and shows that this is not the true feeling in people's heart.
Life is like drama, drama is like life. On the big stage of society, everyone is an actor.
I have surveyed many friends in middle and high school, and they all say that Since entering the university, they have to constantly disguise themselves.
The reason is that most people in society are like this. And they think take masks also a means of self-protection.
The sociologist goffman proposed the famous theory of drama, which holds that everyone is an actor on the stage, using various props (language signs, body movement signs, emojis, text signs, etc.) to design or present their images in advance, and strive to be recognized by all audiences.
People‘s pain comes from external pressure as well as internal depression，Therefore，they take a lots of masks.

The class topic that we decided to focus on for this task is collaboration, so the use of a Google doc that all of us can work on at once further reflects this concept. Our idea of collaboration involves a class “event”, which is our “End-of-Semester Party”, as we believe that it would be more collaborative if everyone was able to reminisce together on times from high school and primary school, when we had end-of-term parties.

Assessment Task 3 - Final work: Erasure
With the idea of ‘erasure’, I wanted to take it further and consider the concept from different perspectives. The notion of erasure is often appeared as removing, wiping or disappearing. What I thought ‘erasure’ is disappearance of the things that I take it for granted. Then I tried to place myself in that situation and think of what it would be like when necessary objects disappear from our lives. This related to my first and second experiments. For those experiments, I used Adobe photoshop and premiere to produce the removal of really simple things in life such as no symbols and letters from the keyboard or unexpected mute in expected situation.
For my final project, I decided to present the form of erasure of senses, specifically visual, auditory, and olfactory senses — in relation to disability, and their feelings of inconvenience and isolation in society abstractly. When our abilities to see, hear and smell disappear we can see how uncomfortable life would be. Through the examples I made, just by getting rid of everyday scenarios can sympathise the inconvenience of disability. I used blur and old tv effects or flickering light to show the idea of sight disability. And by bring the idea of my second experiment to reveal auditory disorder. I reversed the video of blooming flowers and overlay with under water scene to symbolise the olfactory disorder abstractly.
My final time-based work has reflected the idea of erasure with using a lot of abstractions and I have referred to a number of YouTube videos to learn a series of editing techniques to produce more perfect and aesthetic work. Through the final work, I realised the act of erasure is also an act of creation. And also able to consider new possibilities which would appear after ‘erasure’.
Experiment 3: Erasure
Tim Silver - Untitled (bust) (Pine Timbermate Woodfiller), 2011
I am inspired by Tim Silver’s work Untitled (2011) and produced these photos of myself. He tried to make a self portrait of himself that disappear over time with using unstable material. With using vivid lighting, I wanted myself to be covered and be erased into the darkness to convey the vague idea of forgotten identity.
Experiment 2: Erasure
By taking the idea from the first experiment, I created the erasure of expected sounds in this second experiment. With using Adobe premiere cc, I attempted to erase some audio parts of a video to emphasise the emptiness of a particular sound and that unexpected mute represented the importance of erasure. For example, one of the scenes included a person washing the dishes and when the person turns on the water, the sound of water doesn’t come out but we can see the water coming out of the tap. Through the audio we can experience the unexpectedness of the sound of water not being present.

What will people do if the things they take it for granted disappeared? The first thing that came to my mind when I heard the word ‘erasure’ was something that suddenly disappeared just like video effects in movies. But then I tried to place myself in that situation and think of what it would be like when necessary objects disappear from our lives. I used Adobe photoshop to remove the necessary things that we faced in our daily lives such as deleting icons from our mobile phones, the symbols and letters from the keyboard and the numbers from the elevator. As we take these really simple things in life for granted, we wouldn’t know how this change would greatly effect us and after this necessity disappears we can see the importance. And I was also able to consider new possibilities which would appear after ‘erasure’
Research
In the autumn part of the publication, I was intended to show a shift of the colour tone from winter to autumn, the artwork “The Autumn Rhythm” produced by Jackson Pollock is the one I used when designing the first page of the Autumn theme.
This complex and visual sensational painting has brought in a contrary rhythm between light and dark, thick and thin, heavy and buoyant, straight and curved, horizontal and vertical. The use of pure abstract expression has drawn this evocative autumn picture without a clear description of autumn characteristic.
