@assholevoice || gets a starter

It was a relatively calm day, FEDRA and the Fireflies had seemingly paused their rivalry for the moment. Though nothing was perfect in this tainted world they now lived in.

So this changed nothing, they still had to be careful.

Penny snuck through the alleyways with her trusty golden retriever right beside her. The dog, affectionately named "Kro", was a flunked military dog.

Funny thing, such a sweet animal being trained to kill. But with the limited pool of potential parents to parent man's future best friends, you took what you could get.

Penny suddenly stopped and clicked her tongue while pointing at her feet to signal to Kro, the dog sat beside her with a soft blink of their big brown eyes.

It was now that she caught sight of a soldier and man going separate ways, this meant one of two things. Either a deal had just been struck, or well... nope that was the only reason that made sense.

"Kro, follow." Penny whispered, pointing towards the man as he walked away. The dog immediately stood up and trotted after Joel.

Kro uttered a soft bark as they got close to Joel, tail wagging slowly behind them as they smiled dopily up to him. Meanwhile, Penny waited to sneak up behind Joel when he'd (hopefully) be distracted by the adorable dog.

Jaw tense, eyebrows knitted together and she didn't break any eye contact not even for a second. One wrong move, one wrong look and she'd pull the trigger. What he said didn't matter, he's a stranger and he can make any claim he wanted. It didn't mean she had to believe him. People bullshit all the damn time... What makes him any different?

❝ Well it's not, ❞ She says, her lips wore somewhat of a grimace and her eyes were cold, but not without a hint of fear. She was scared, but she'd try her best not to convey that to someone she didn't know.

It wasn't much, but it was something. It was a very small apartment building on the street, clear of infected and although it wasn't the cleanest, there were a few rooms that still had a nice comfy bed and that's all she cared about. Something soft to lay on for a change.

OPEN STARTER: @assholevoice​ LOCATION: Outskirts of Jackson // Gas Station TIME: Late Afternoon/Early Evening CHARACTERS:  Willow Hale && Joel Miller

The man had been swearing into the silence around him for the better part of an hour. It had left Willow longing for popcorn. She so loved the taste of the hot, salty butter on her tongue. Had often dreamed of what it would be like to taste it again. Now, all she had left to hold onto were the memories a life before the world fell apart around her. It was one of the only ways to stem the loneliness that plagued her constantly. 

She’d been alone for too long, and rarely did a soul venture this far out of Jackson. It’s why she’d set up here, mostly undisturbed; aside from the occasional Infected, or raiders moving onto the next town. They usually passed by without noticing her, too far from the main road to be noticed - but she’d caught a glimpse of a car, and a man with greying hair and a chip on his shoulder that could be seen from afar. 

Through her binoculars, she’d watched as he got out of a car that had clearly broken down, just feet away from the driveway to the station. She spent the first thirty minutes watching from a distance, before closing the gap between them and hiding behind one of the rusted out shells that once had called themselves a car. The second half of the most amusing hour of her year so far was spent close by, a small grin tugging at her lips as he got increasingly more frustrated. 

Willow had been contemplating stepping out of the comfort of her shadows to give him a hand for a little while now before fate made that decision for her. The unmistakable shriek of an Infected sounded right behind him. God, those things were fast when they wanted to be. He’d come out of nowhere. The main reason she avoided the gas station unless she absolutely needed something, or was assessing a nearby threat.

She had to hand it to the stranger.

He moved fast, though not quite fast enough. He'd spun around, gun in hand ready to shoot but the infected was on him in seconds. Darting out from her hiding place, she closed the distance quickly. Moving with a feline grace, Willow was able to sneak up on them both until the but of her gun was inches away from the infected's temple. The sound of the gunshot rang out into the night, before it's body fell limp to the ground beside the stranger.

"You ok?" She asked softly, not lowering her gun but not pointing it directly at him, either. A girl can never be too careful, after all...
