Assignment Sixteen - The Move.
After putting the last box in her Lexus RX, Monroe closed the trunk before placing her hands on the back of the car, shutting her eyelids. The blonde took a deep breath as she mentally processed the move she was about to make, back to her father’s house. Her entire life, Monroe lived in a penthouse in downtown Charlotte under her father’s orders. The first time she had lived anywhere else was when her and Parker moved in together shortly after getting engaged. They lived in a rundown apartment with one bedroom that was arguably the least safe place for the two to live, but it had been her home for nearly a year and a half. Once they made the decision to get a divorce, Monroe immediately made the decision to move out and find her way back to her father’s house.
Her stomach twisted and turned as she opened her eyes, taking in the image of the back of her SUV. She turned her head to see her apartment building, seeing the balcony of her now former apartment on the 3th floor. Various memories of the place flashed through her head from the moment they moved in, date nights, even the fights that filled the walls of their apartment. She absorbed the good and the bad memories, feeling as if a movie just played out in her head of her entire experience here. She couldn’t help but release a soft sigh of disappointment as she remembered that all of it was coming to an end, and this apartment was no longer her home. “Fuck,” she mumbled to herself, almost angry that this was occurring. Though Monroe realized she had made the choice to stick with her job over her husband, and that she jumped to the opportunity to move back home, it didn’t make it any easier to know she was leaving many things behind by running away.
Standing up straight, Monroe grabbed the key to the apartment, undoing it on her keychain. Putting the lanyard around her neck, she held the key to her former home in her hand as she walked up the few slights of stairs to get to the apartment. Opening the door, she met the eyes of her soon to be ex-husband. “Hey,” she managed to say, breathing softly as she tried to get ahold of her racing heart. “I think I have all of my stuff out of here, let me know if I left anything else and I can come pick it up,” she expressed, placing the key on the counter beside the two. She watched him nod at her while his lips formed a straight line - a typical sign that meant he had nothing else to say. Monroe simply nodded back as her hands dropped beside her, “Take care, P. I’ll see you around,” she spoke softly. Turning her back to him, Monroe made her way to the front door before walking out. Closing the door to the apartment, she released a heavy sigh as she shook her head to herself. She had been closing a chapter of her life that she imagined was a forever type thing. A part of her wanted to run back in and beg for him back, but the reality of all of this was her pride meant more to her than any of this.
