Another book to read
If I was going to read another book after Camera Lucida, it would probably be a book about how to look at photos and how to understand them. A book I would consider looking into is The Nature of Photographs by Stephen Shore. This book was in the similar reads section of Camera Lucida and it recommended by the readers. The author is a photographer himself and he talks about how to understand photos from all times. It would be interesting to see how he portrays photos versus how Roland Barthes did.

Pg 103-119
While reading, there was a really interesting point that caught my attention. "Looking around at the customers in a cafe, someone remarked to me (rightly) : "Look how gloomy they are! nowadays the images are livelier than the people."" I believe that it is true because everyone can pretend to smile in a picture, even if they aren't really happy. People take images all the time now and we can see them digitally, unlike the past where you had to print the photo to see it. In the present right now, you can look up anything online and see an image of it, you don't really get to experience what you see in the photo because you don't have to visit it. Photography has changed the views of things through the eyes of people.
Pg. 94-102
While reading, I got the impression that he likes to really look into a picture. He thinks of the meaning behind the picture and what is really happening. You can see the truth in a photograph versus in real life. I agree because a picture contains a thousand words, you can interpret so much from a photograph and people notice different things. One detail can mean nothing to someone, but to another person, it means way more.

Thoughts on pg. 63-73
While reading I got the impression that he was reflecting on his mom and her life. He started by looking at the photo of her as a child with her brother and I thought that he was thinking about how his mom isn't the same today. In the photo she was innocent and naive. When he looked the Winter Garden photo, his mom was a totally different person, not who was in the previous picture. In the Winter Garden photo, his mom was sick and fragile. He remembers how he had to take care of her all the time and he didn't get to do all the things he wanted to do. This made him realize how photography changed his life and how one photograph holds meaning in it. It means something different to everyone.
