The big major difference in Mentor!Diego AU is that he’ll still be alive. Because after Dahlia’s attempt at poisoning him and failed because he caught her at the very last second, Diego learned to defend himself so when Redd White tried to kill him, he got his ass handed instead!

And Diego won’t take any coffee from anyone other than Phoenix (after almost a year and a half as his assistant) and himself. If he left his coffee even for a minute, he’ll dump it and brew a new one.

Diego didn’t know that Mia survived so he took care of Maya too, sometimes.

The thing that would be the same is that Mia’s and Maya’s mother will still be dead. Though, because there’s no Godot, the culprit of the murder is, tragically, Mia

(Also, Mia is wearing the famous hairstyle of the dead because she was already ‘dead’ once :’D )

BONUS:

When he’s not the lead Lawyer, Phoenix is the one who keeps serving Diego coffees in the middle of the courtroom lol

Would von Karma play a role in early cases maybe? Like assigning Miles stuff to do, so Phoenix actually knows him and how much Miles looks up to him, so when it's figured out that von karma killed Gregory, Phoenix is internally like, "Fuuuuuck, this is gonna hurt Miles SO bad"

Miles does know Von Karma, he was adopted by him when his dad died. Von Karma was in charge of his and his sister's training, and wasn't a very good father (kind of abusive actually, not physically but verbally). Because of that Mikes dislikes him greatly for what he did to him and his sister, and barely stays in contact. When he finds out Von Karma was the one who actually killed his father, though, he's not so much grief-stricken as he is really, really angry. Phoenix was the only reason he didn't go out and kill Manfred on the spot.

Franziska also hates her dad, and was suspected of murdering him afterwards. Miles managed to clear her name but still has his doubts on whether she did or not.

If you keep in the childhood friendship thing, Phoenix would probably be SO concerned upon meeting Miles again and hearing him call himself a sociopath and deny himself feelings. Because not only is that a change from the Miles he knew, but also because it's sooo unhealthy to repress shit. Plus the idea of Miles not feeling would probably make Phoenix really sad, and so would especially the idea of Miles not allowing himself to feel
