Hi-I'm really nervous. I moved to a new condo last month and my parakeet came too. I had noticed before the move reddish blackish spots on his feathers in some places, but they seemed like part of his coloring. Now though as he's molting he's lost around 8 feathers from one wing-he can't fly normally and I always liked to keep him flighted. There aren't many vets near me now and I'm just so worried he could have mites-but the info online is confusing. Help!!

If you could submit a photo of the discoloured feathers that would help us greatly as it could be a number of things depending on what the discolouration looks like.

My initial reaction to feather discolouring is a liver disease which is typically caused by improper diet.  Make sure all the dietary conditions are correct, fresh bird safe veggies 2-3 times a day, pellets, and fresh water.  If he isn’t eating vegetables that will need to be changed immediately, that can lead to feather discolouration, feather loss, and (in serious cases) death.

I have not had to personally deal with mites but you should never do a treatment yourself.  If mites is not the issue you will be pumping harmful chemicals in to your bird’s body for no apparent reason which can do more harm than good.

You have to find a vet to properly diagnose and treat your bird, as a pet owner it is your job to make sure it fulfills a proper quality of life if this means driving an hour to get it to someone who can properly treat your bird then that is what you will need to do.

I'm sorry, that doesn't make much sense. I just think you approached this from the wrong perspective, as is pretty clearly evidenced by all the asks you actually post about how the movie gets too much "hate" and that bull. It's strange to me that you'll post those ignorant asks and yet choose to answer this privately, and that enforces how you're trying to pretend that this movie doesn't have a ton of problems. This whole week has left me uncomfortable with how you handled it.

Song of the South has it’s issues. That is evident, otherwise Disney wouldn’t have it banned from being released on DVD. I never said it didn’t have it’s issues. I made three posts about the controversies from the movie and there is a post in my queue linking people to them again.

I answered your first ask privately because I had already answered your ask in a post that is in the queue to be posted later so I didn’t want to have it posted twice. 

I haven’t found anything online blatantly stating what is wrong with the movie, just articles stating that it is considered racist for it’s stereotypical portrayal of the south. So I’m not sure what you wanted me to post about this movie. I wasn’t going to post hate because this place is a positive environment. I didn’t ignore that Song of the South had it’s issues, I posted about them here: [X] [X] [X] [X]

I’m sorry this week has made you uncomfortable. I just found the facts that I could through my usual sources.
