You do care. You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it.

because I remembered this was a thing for him
Sirius does better in the crisp, artificial life of the stations. The mimicry is all easy to spot, no matter how hard the Alliance engineers try. It all carries a waft of chemicals, if not outright plastic.
But there’s an actual habitable planet beneath the station they’re docked in this time and Asteria is ecstatic. For once her parents are too lost in other experiments to exert their usual control, so she’s already tugging on shoes by the time the first shuttle docks.
And, as ever, there is very little Sirius can actually deny his little cousin.
Even more so when she suppresses not a single complaint at having to be dragged away from the main district when Sirius struggles to find breath. There isn’t even a whimper when he clings to her far too right, trying not to remember how a similar tight once ran red with blood of his own making.
