Do you get annoyed about how the earth in Steven Universe is practically the same as the real world? Or how there are no other aliens besides the Gems?
We don’t actually know it’s the same as the real world. The world map we saw shows a giant crater in Russia, and the United States has different states. I overall liked the implication that the gems did significantly change history but we didn’t need to get into it because it wasn’t relevant to a child’s limited worldview. Unfortunately, it never really went anywhere.
Or how there are no other aliens besides the Gems?
LOL no I am 100% okay with that. The show was already too cluttered as-is, we didn’t need a whole other faction in the mix.
As I said in my proposed rewrite, it probably would have been better to dodge the issue by down-scaling the gem empire enough to make it believable Earth is the first time they encountered other life.
(Random plug: If you’d like a science fantasy adventure with greater alien diversity, you might enjoy AsteroidQuest. The artist loves drawing everything except humans, you see, so the plot is entirely about the aliens with humans only as distant bureaucrats. Questions of how the various species perceive and interact with each other is a common topic in the ask-the-characters supplementals.)
